New Avenue | Architect | Project Manager | Designer Position
The Role: Everything possible in the design, permitting, and development of new housing in California.
Your Qualifications:
You are a world-class professional, hustler, problem solver, and all-around wonderful person.
Your Activities: Everything it takes to get a house, from an initial phone call to follow-up visits a year after the final inspection.
Required Skills:
- Design (including significant time in Revit)
- Permitting (pushing back on arbitrary bureaucratic policies. "No, we will not be paying $50,000 for a water meter because state law prohibits that.")
- Project Management, holding people accountable, tracking schedules.
- GSuite - You will use Google Slides and Google Sheets.
- Great communication & writing. Always professional. We over-communicate, 10X the norm in this industry.
- Ability to advise team members (design AND construction) in the field. Comfortable calling construction workers on mistakes and making them redo work. Ability to provide positive support to the building team.
- Team mentality - you are a team member and a team leader. Your team includes accountants, interior designers, drafters, and contractors. You work with them positively and they love working with you.
- Experience leading residential projects, including submitting Use Permits, AUPs, and building permit submittals, presenting to government boards, etc...
- You must have a list of building permits you have obtained independently.
Supplemental Skills (nice-to-have):
- Fun
- Ability to navigate the unknown blind
- Current project list and workload of 5+ projects plus the ability to source 10-20 new projects per year through your own networks.
- Ability to get up after being blindsided by the chaos of politics, neighbors, and vendors. Smile and keep on hustling.
Compensation Benefits:
- Full-time. You will be paid above market rate and work hard, some nights and some weekends.

Remote Work:
- New Avenue has been a work-from-from home culture since long before the days of Covid. Local site visits and city-permitting research are often required in person. However, this is flexible, and some fully remote positions are available.
Compensation:
You will be on the high side of this range if you meet every criteria in this posting. If you meet only a few of the criteria you will start at the low side of this range and we have a 2-5 year plan to get you to the high side.
