Gizmo Art Production is seeking an experienced Exhibit Carpenter to join our team in San Francisco. This is a temporary, project-based position focused on building museum exhibits, interactive exhibits, retail displays, custom millwork, and high-quality furniture for public-facing environments.
The current project runs through November 3, with the potential for future opportunities based on workload and performance.

Position Summary
This is a shop-based position focused on the fabrication and assembly of custom exhibit components and furniture for interactive exhibit and retail environments. The ideal candidate is a highly skilled carpenter who takes pride in precision craftsmanship, can work independently, and consistently produces high-quality finished work.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3–5 years of professional carpentry, millwork, cabinetmaking, or exhibit fabrication experience.
- High level of proficiency with stationary woodworking machinery.
- High level of proficiency with standard woodworking hand tools and power tools.
- Experience with specialized woodworking tools and fabrication techniques.
- Excellent fit-up, assembly, and finishing skills.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to read and interpret shop drawings and fabrication documents.
- Good basic math skills.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Experience building museum exhibits, interactive exhibits, retail displays, trade show exhibits, custom furniture, or architectural millwork is highly desirable.
Responsibilities
The Exhibit Carpenter is expected to work at a high skill level with minimal supervision while maintaining exceptional standards of craftsmanship and quality.
Responsibilities include:
- Building custom exhibit components, interactive display elements, retail fixtures, museum exhibits, custom millwork, and furniture pieces.
- Selecting, milling, cutting, fitting, assembling, gluing, sanding, and preparing materials for final installation.
- Reading and interpreting shop drawings and fabrication documents.
- Producing accurate, high-quality work that meets project specifications and deadlines.
- Assisting with exhibit assembly, installation preparation, and occasional on-site installations.
- Collaborating with project managers, designers, fabricators, and fellow craftspeople.
- Troubleshooting fabrication challenges and developing practical solutions.
- Maintaining woodworking equipment and keeping the wood shop clean, organized, and safe.
- Supporting fabrication projects that may include materials other than wood.
Compensation
Pay is dependent on experience and qualifications.
