KBS Academy is seeking two K–12 Specials Teachers to provide instruction in physical education, art, health, music, and library. Our private school serves students with intellectual and developmental disabilities, emotional and behavioral needs, autism, and other unique learning needs.
Our Specials Teachers will create engaging, developmentally appropriate lessons that accommodate a wide range of abilities, communication styles, sensory needs, and learning profiles. The ideal candidates will be flexible, patient, energetic, and committed to helping every student participate successfully.

Responsibilities
- Plan and teach engaging K–12 lessons in physical education, art, health, music, and library
- Adapt instruction, activities, and materials to meet students’ individual abilities, interests, sensory needs, and IEP goals
- Create an inclusive environment in which students of all ability levels can participate and experience success
- Collaborate with special education teachers, BCBAs, behavioral health staff, and other team members
- Follow students’ individualized behavioral and safety support plans
- Use compassion-based and trauma-informed approaches when responding to behavioral or emotional needs
- Maintain a safe, structured, and encouraging learning environment
- Monitor student participation and progress and complete required documentation
- Communicate professionally with school leadership, team members, and families as appropriate
- Promote student choice, creativity, independence, dignity, and self-expression
- Assist with schoolwide activities, events, and special programs as needed
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Special Education, or a related field
- Valid Pennsylvania teaching certification or eligibility for certification preferred
- Experience working with children or adolescents with intellectual and developmental disabilities, autism, emotional support needs, and/or behavioral challenges strongly preferred
- Ability and willingness to teach multiple specials subjects across K–12 grade levels
- Understanding of differentiated instruction and appropriate educational accommodations
- Familiarity with trauma-informed care and compassionate ABA practices—or a willingness to learn
- Strong classroom management, communication, and collaboration skills
- Creativity, flexibility, patience, and enthusiasm
- Ability to remain calm, supportive, and professional when students experience behavioral or emotional challenges
- Ability to meet all required background checks, clearances, and pre-employment requirements for working with children
