Full Job Description

The Greater Hazleton Joint Sewer Authority (GHJSA) is seeking candidates for a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator position.

Plant Operators are Process Control Technicians who perform skilled and semi-skilled work in the operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment, sludge processing, incineration and laboratory process control in a wastewater treatment facility. They maintain optimal operating conditions by interpreting meters, gauges, biological and chemical analysis and observation of the treatment process. They maintain equipment and facilities in a safe, effective and orderly manner to ensure the wastewater treatment facility maintains compliance

Applicants must have an understanding of math, chemistry, biology, or environmental science concepts or have working experience in wastewater treatment. An Associate’s or Bachelor of Science Degree in one of the disciplines listed above is preferred. Applicants must either possess a “Class A, Subclass 1” Pennsylvania Water and Wastewater Operators’ License or obtain the license with in two (2) years from the date of hire by passing the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) Wastewater “Class A, Subclass 1” Examination. A valid Pennsylvania driver’s license and acceptable motor vehicle record is also required for this position. Pre-employment drug screening and background checks, including driving record, will be conducted.

This is a swing shift position, which requires the employee to work first, second, and third shift on a rotating basis.
