Full Job Description

Part-Time Payroll Accountant

Salary: $29–$36/hour, depending on experience

Location: McLean, VA

Office Situation: 100% in-office | Permanent part-time | Approximately 20–24 hours per week

Our client, an established organization in the real estate industry, is seeking a Part-Time Payroll Accountant to own full-cycle payroll and the related accounting and reconciliation processes.

Permanent part-time opportunity with approximately 20–24 hours per week.

Flexible scheduling options, including three longer days or shorter days throughout the week, with flexibility needed around payroll processing dates.

True payroll ownership. You won't be responsible for just one piece of the process.

Work directly with HR and Accounting and become the go-to resource for payroll.

Opportunity to use your payroll knowledge, accounting skills, and problem-solving ability rather than simply processing transactions.

Established organization with a long-standing presence in the real estate industry.

401(k) eligibility for this part-time position.

Excellent fit for an experienced payroll professional who wants to continue doing meaningful work without committing to a full-time schedule.

Key Responsibilities

Own full-cycle, semi-monthly payroll for two employee populations.

Process payroll changes, deductions, bonuses, overtime and other payroll activity.

Submit payroll through ADP and review payroll reports for accuracy.

Prepare and maintain internal payroll accounting schedules and spreadsheets.

Prepare payroll and benefit journal entries and general ledger reconciliations.

Reconcile payroll, benefit and insurance accounts and investigate discrepancies.

Review and reconcile quarterly payroll tax filings, including 941s, and support year-end payroll reporting.

Maintain 401(k)/Safe Harbor contribution calculations and reconciliations.

Prepare payroll-related check requests, reports and accounting schedules.

Research payroll discrepancies and resolve issues through completion.

Support month-end, year-end and payroll-related reporting projects.

Qualifications

Recent, hands-on full-cycle payroll experience with direct responsibility for the payroll process from beginning to end.

Experience with payroll accounting and reconciliations, including payroll-to-GL and related account reconciliations.

Working knowledge of payroll taxes, 941s, W-2/W-3 reporting, deductions and taxable/non-taxable payroll items.

Ability to research and resolve payroll and reconciliation discrepancies independently.

Comfortable working with both payroll systems and hands-on/manual reconciliation processes.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
