The Center for Cancer Research (CCR), National Cancer Institute (NCI), National Institutes of Health (NIH), Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), is seeking to fill multiple Senior Clinician positions with outstanding candidates with research experience and expertise in cancer-related specialties. Candidates specializing in medical oncology, pathology, surgical oncology, and other specialties with procedural expertise are strongly encouraged to apply.
The position of Senior Clinician is equivalent to an academic Full Professor on a non-tenure clinical track. In addition to having outstanding clinical skills and international expertise in their field, Senior Clinicians will be expected to develop and manage complex clinical programs, provide oversight of a large clinical trial portfolio of investigator-initiated treatment and natural history studies, oversee diverse clinical support teams, and foster collaborations with principal investigators within disease-specific focus areas. Clinical research programs overseen by a Senior Clinician are based out of the NIH Clinical Center located on the main NIH campus in Bethesda, MD.
The position of Senior Clinician carries the full programmatic benefits of serving as an independent principal clinical investigator, including formal supervisory responsibilities and the ability to develop and hold Cooperative Research and Development Agreements (CRADAs) with outside biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies. Senior Clinicians will be assigned resources to build and maintain a robust clinical trials program including advanced practice providers, research nurses, and patient care coordinators. A Senior Clinician’s resources will be reviewed on a four-year cycle that includes both scientific and programmatic needs. In addition, Senior Clinicians will have access to robust existing clinical trial infrastructure including data management, training, protocol support office, regulatory support, information systems and technology, and data safety monitoring. The CCR's existing infrastructure also offers research staff access to a wide array of intellectual and technological assets, including high-quality technology cores dedicated to pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics, protein chemistry, natural products chemistry, biophysics, mass spectrometry, advanced imaging, microscopy, proteomics, transcriptomics and genomics, bioinformatics/biostatistics, and single-cell sequencing, spatial transcriptomics, flow cytometry, and mass cytometry.
