About the Role
We supply critical tooling and components for advanced aerospace programs — and we're growing fast. As we scale, we need a Purchasing Coordinator whose primary focus is owning all company outsourcing: welding, finishing, powder coating, machining, and every other value-added process we send out the door. You'll be the single point of contact between our shop and our outside vendors, making sure outsourced work comes back on time and to spec. On top of that, you'll keep the broader procurement engine running — sourcing materials, managing POs, and making sure the shop floor never waits on parts.
What We're Looking For
Required
- 2–5 years of purchasing, procurement, or supply chain experience in a sheet metal fabrication or precision manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience managing outsourcing for secondary and value-added operations (welding, finishing, powder coating, anodizing, plating, heat treating, machining, etc.) — this is a core requirement, not a nice-to-have.
- Working knowledge of sheet metal fabrication processes (laser cutting, forming/press brake, welding) sufficient to read job routings and evaluate vendor quality against spec.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, work orders, and sheet metal specifications.
- Familiarity with ERP systems (e.g., JobBOSS, SAP, NetSuite, or similar) and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Solid understanding of purchase order processes, vendor management, and basic contract terms.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to juggle multiple vendors and priorities at once.
- Detail-oriented and highly organized, able to keep accurate records in a fast-paced environment.
- High school diploma or equivalent required. [Confirm — add "associate/bachelor's in supply chain or business a plus" if desired.]
Preferred
- Prior experience specifically within a sheet metal or metal fabrication job shop (rather than general manufacturing).
- Experience sourcing materials and services for aerospace-grade metal fabrication or machining.
- Established relationships with regional outsourcing vendors for finishing or coating processes.
What You'll Do
Own all company outsourcing. Serve as the primary point of contact for every process we send outside: welding, finishing (anodizing, plating, heat treating, powder coating), machining, and any other value-added services. Coordinate scheduling, logistics, and job routing with outside vendors; track every active outsource order; and ensure work comes back on time and to spec. Proactively flag delays or quality issues to internal teams, maintain approved vendor lists, and continuously evaluate vendor performance to improve cost, quality, and turnaround.
Source and qualify suppliers. Identify and evaluate suppliers for raw materials, hardware, tooling, and indirect goods; solicit and analyze competitive quotes; negotiate pricing and lead times; and recommend vendors on cost, quality, and reliability. Continuously look for cost-reduction and supply-chain optimization opportunities.
Own purchase orders end to end. Generate, issue, and track POs from creation through receipt and invoice reconciliation. Keep purchasing records accurate in the ERP system, ensure proper documentation, resolve discrepancies with vendors and accounting, and make sure every PO follows company approval workflows.
Coordinate across departments. Work closely with engineering, production planning, quality, and accounting to understand material requirements and align purchasing with production schedules. Communicate proactively about supply risks, delivery delays, or shortages that could affect operations.
Manage inventory and incoming material. Monitor inventory for production materials and consumables to ensure availability without excess stock. Partner with receiving and warehouse staff to verify incoming materials against POs and quality standards, and assist with cycle counts and physical inventory audits.
What Success Looks Like
We don't expect you to do everything on day one. Here's how we picture this role coming together over your first year:
In your first 90 days
You'll learn how we work — our ERP system, our approval workflows, and the materials and processes behind our most common jobs. You'll get to know our key suppliers and the engineering and production folks you'll partner with daily, and you'll start issuing and tracking purchase orders with confidence. Early on, success is simple: orders go out clean, get tracked, and nothing slips through the cracks.
By six months
Outsourcing is running smoothly — you've built strong relationships with our outside vendors, jobs are being routed and tracked without things falling through the cracks, and work is coming back on time and to spec. You're also running the day-to-day procurement cycle on your own — sourcing materials, comparing quotes, negotiating lead times, and reconciling invoices without needing to be chased. You're catching potential material shortages before they reach the shop floor.
By the end of your first year
You know our supply base cold and the team trusts your judgment. You've tightened lead times and costs on our highest-volume materials, brought structure to our approved-vendor lists, and become the person engineering and production come to when they need something sourced fast. When a supply risk shows up, you're flagging it — and often already solving it — before anyone else notices. In short, you've made our supply chain something we don't have to worry about.
