Senior Accountant | Manufacturing Finance

Location: Close to Quad Cities, IA (Hybrid)

Schedule: Hybrid work arrangement with regular onsite presence at a manufacturing facility at least 3 days per week

Travel: Up to 25% based on business needs

Overview

A well-established manufacturing organization is seeking a Senior Accountant to join its Finance team and serve as a key business partner to plant operations. This role combines cost accounting, inventory management, financial reporting, and operational analysis to support business performance and strategic decision-making.This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional who enjoys working closely with operational leaders, driving process improvements, and contributing to finance transformation initiatives within a manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

Manufacturing & Cost Accounting

Prepare and post journal entries related to production, labor, overhead, and inventory transactions.
Analyze manufacturing costs and investigate variances against standards, budgets, and operational expectations.
Support month-end and year-end close activities while ensuring accuracy and compliance.
Coordinate and reconcile production reporting, including units produced, scrap, and manufacturing variances.
Provide financial insight and recommendations that support operational performance.

Inventory & Operations Partnership

Maintain accurate accounting for raw materials, work-in-process (WIP), and finished goods inventory.
Partner with production and operations teams to validate inventory movements and production reporting.
Support physical inventories and cycle count programs while investigating and resolving discrepancies.
Monitor inventory reserves, obsolescence, and required adjustments.
Identify opportunities to improve inventory accuracy and cost visibility.

Financial Reporting & Controls

Prepare and analyze plant financial reports, including profit and loss statements, cost summaries, and variance analysis.
Support account reconciliations, accruals, and plant-related accounting activities.
Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and audit requirements.
Assist with continuous improvement initiatives that enhance reporting efficiency and financial processes.

Systems & Process Improvement

Utilize ERP systems to support financial, inventory, and production activities.
Participate in system enhancements and business transformation initiatives.
Support process improvements and standardization efforts across manufacturing finance operations.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
3-5 years of accounting experience within a manufacturing environment.
Strong understanding of cost accounting, inventory accounting, and manufacturing operations.
Experience with ERP systems.
Experience with journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and financial reporting.
Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
High level of accuracy, accountability, and attention to detail.
Ability to work in a hybrid environment with regular onsite presence in the East Tennessee area.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience supporting manufacturing plants or multi-site operations.
Strong knowledge of standard costing and variance analysis.
Experience partnering directly with production and operations leadership.
CPA or CMA designation, or progress toward certification.
