Full Job Description

Assignment Overview

Shift: Days, 4x10hrs
Hours: 40 hrs/wk
Start Date: Jul 5, 2026
Length: 13 weeks

Description

American Traveler is hiring an Echocardiography Sonographer with a minimum of 5 years of echo experience, including 2+ years in acute inpatient echo at a Level I trauma facility.

Details

Work in a busy inpatient echocardiography lab at a tertiary care hospital with a Level I trauma center
Rotating day shifts including rotating weekends, 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM (10-hour shifts)
40 hours per week
Daily workload of 7-8 echocardiograms per day
Overnight call required 2-3 nights per month from 5:30 PM to 6:30 AM, with strict guidelines and cardiologist approval required to be called in
May float within a 25-mile radius between facilities as needed

Requirements

Minimum 5 years of echocardiography experience
At least 2+ years of acute inpatient echo experience in a Trauma 1 level facility
Proficiency in TTEs, stress echocardiograms, and TEEs, with appropriate use of 3D echo and strain imaging
In-depth knowledge of complex cardiac anatomy and pathology
Expertise in optimizing image quality through scanning techniques, equipment settings, and ultrasound contrast agents
Ability to manage high-volume workflows in a critical care environment
Knowledge of ASE and IAC standards and best practices
License required if applicable
Valid driver's license required for consideration
2 professional references required

Additional Information

Perform a full range of echocardiography procedures meeting accreditation standards in a fast-paced, critical care environment
Collaborate with sonographers, cardiologists, and fellows through case reviews, feedback sessions, and educational opportunities
Strict adherence to lab standards and protocols to maintain diagnostic accuracy and consistency
Strong time management and patient communication skills required to balance workload and ensure patient comfort
Local candidates within 90 miles of any MaineHealth facility are considered local and are not eligible for renewals or extensions
RTO should be kept to a minimum, with 3-4 days considered reasonable for a 13-week contract, at manager's discretion
Candidates who have worked at any MaineHealth facility within the past 12 months should disclose this during consideration
Airpods, laptops, and cell phone usage are prohibited on the unit
