Job Summary
The Dive Master supports daily dive operations by ensuring guest safety, delivering exceptional underwater experiences, and maintaining professional diving standards. This position assists the Boat Captain and General Manager with dive trip logistics, guest supervision, and marine safety compliance. The Dive Master also provides scuba instruction and training support for guests and certified divers, including assisting with Open Water and Advanced courses under instructor supervision. The role combines customer service, safety management, and marine stewardship to provide a world-class diving experience while promoting reef conservation and environmental awareness.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct pre-dive briefings, including safety instructions, dive site overviews, and environmental conservation reminders.
- Supervise and guide certified divers during excursions, ensuring adherence to safe diving practices.
- Assist guests with equipment setup, checks, and post-dive care.
- Maintain accurate dive logs, guest rosters, and incident reports.
- Support the Captain with vessel operations, mooring, and deck safety.
- Perform equipment maintenance, tank fills, and daily rinse/cleaning procedures.
- Educate guests about local marine life and responsible diving behaviors.
- Uphold all U.S. Coast Guard (USCG), PADI, and company safety regulations.
Team Support & Leadership
- Coordinate with Captains, Mates, and Crew to ensure smooth dive operations and guest satisfaction.
- Assist with training new dive crew or interns in operational and safety procedures.
- Promote a positive team culture focused on professionalism, safety, and guest care.
Administrative & Compliance
- Complete and submit dive trip reports, waivers, and tank fill logs.
- Report equipment damage, safety incidents, or maintenance needs promptly.
- Ensure adherence to Coral Reef Park Company policies and Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary guidelines.
- Support other duties as assigned by the Boat Captain or General Manager.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all State Park rules, company policies, and safety procedures.
- Ensure all guests wear life jackets and receive proper safety orientation before launching.
- Monitor weather and water conditions, notifying management of unsafe circumstances.
- Maintain situational awareness of all guests on the water and provide support as required.
- Assist in emergency situations, such as rescues or first aid response, following proper protocol.
Experience
- Minimum of 1–2 years of experience as a certified Dive Master, Assistant Instructor, or equivalent.
- Experience leading guided dives and working with mixed-experience groups.
- Prior experience in customer service, resort diving, or marine operations preferred.
- Familiarity with vessel operations, deck safety, and small boat procedures a plus.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Required Certifications: PADI Open Water Diver, PADI Advanced Open Water Diver, PADI Dive Master (or equivalent from another recognized agency such as SDI/TDI, SSI, or NAUI)
- DAN Required
- Current CPR/First Aid
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in emergency situations
- Must be physically fit and capable of lifting dive gear, tanks, and equipment
- Must be comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Must pass company drug test and background check
- Valid State of Florida driver’s license preferred
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $23.00 - $25.00 per hour
