Role Summary: Maintenance Technician
The Maintenance Technician carries out planned preventive maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance on production plant, filling and packaging equipment, utilities, and site facilities. Working at operational level, the role focuses on the safe execution of maintenance tasks, accurate completion of maintenance records, and prompt resolution of equipment breakdowns to minimise production downtime.

Key Responsibilities:
Carry out scheduled planned preventive maintenance (PPM) tasks on production, filling, and packaging equipment in accordance with the maintenance schedule, manufacturer specifications, and site procedures.
Respond promptly to reactive breakdown calls; diagnose faults on mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems and carry out repairs safely and efficiently to restore production.
Complete all maintenance work in compliance with the site permit-to-work (PTW) system, lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, and relevant risk assessments; never bypass safety systems.
Accurately complete maintenance work orders, PPM records, and equipment logs in the maintenance management system; record parts used, work carried out, and any outstanding actions.
Assist with the installation and commissioning of new or replacement equipment under the direction of the Maintenance Engineer.
Monitor utilities including compressed air, heating systems, and site services; report and rectify faults or inefficiencies.
Maintain the maintenance workshop and stores in a clean, organised, and safe condition; manage spare parts stock and flag low-stock items.
Comply with all site health, safety, environmental, quality, and food safety requirements including COSHH controls, PPE usage, and GMP standards applicable to the maintenance function.
Support internal and external audits by ensuring maintenance records, equipment files, and calibration documentation are accurate and up to date.
Qualifications and Experience:
Relevant trade qualification (City & Guilds, FETAC/QQI Level 6, or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation, or a related discipline; apprenticeship-trained candidates welcome.
Minimum 2 years’ hands-on maintenance experience in a manufacturing or process plant environment; chemical, food, or pharmaceutical industry experience is an advantage.
Competence in mechanical maintenance; basic electrical fault-finding; knowledge of pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
Familiarity with planned preventive maintenance systems and permit-to-work / LOTO safety procedures.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, equipment manuals, and wiring diagrams.
Safe Pass and Manual Handling certificates required; MEWP (working at height) licence is an advantage.
Self-motivated, reliable, and safety-conscious with a methodical approach to fault diagnosis; willing to be flexible to support production requirements.
