Job Title: Youth Development Afterschool Position
FLSA Status: Part-Time Exempt Revision Date: 05/2026
Reports to: Youth Development Coordinator/ Youth Development Director
Supervise: On Site Afterschool Camp
POSITION SUMMARY: This position is a part of our leadership team at the YMCA. This position will work alongside youth development director to manage the child watch staff team.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
· Supervises a group of children.
· Communicates and addresses all member concerns first ensuring positive relationships and follows up with Coordinator and/or Director accordingly.
· Inform coordinator and/or Director of any/all staff team concerns immediately.
· Plans activities through a monthly calendar and implements program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and consistent with YMCA core values.
· Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards.
· Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
· Maintains positive relations with parents and other staff.
· Maintains required program records.
· Represent the YMCA at community events that involve children’s activities as assigned.
· Be flexible to attend required family night, meetings, training courses and community Events.
· Works to achieve all department related goals.
· Dress in appropriate work attire as outlined in the Employee Dress Code, always wearing a nametag, and performing all duties in a safe and conscientious manner.
· Adheres to all safe practices by following consumer‑boundary policies, adhering to procedures for supervising high‑risk activities, promptly reporting suspicious or inappropriate behavior or policy violations while maintaining strict confidentiality
· Complete all required annual and bi-annual training requirements for child abuse prevention, anti-harassment and updated policies.
· Keep all required certifications current.

QUALIFICATIONS:
· One year or more experience working with and leading organized activities with children.
· Minimum one year of experience in a staff supervision role.
· At least 18 years of age.
· Valid Driver’s License and proof of insurance required.
· CPR, First Aid, Child Abuse Prevention, Concussion Training, Anti-Harassment, Blood Borne Pathogen, Defensive Driving and Hazardous Communications required prior to hire.
· Previous experience working with children in a developmental setting preferred.
· Ability to plan, organize, and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities.
· Previous experience with diverse populations preferred.
· Desire and ability to work with children of all ages.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
· Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position; including walking, standing, bending, kneeling, leaning, reaching and lifting.
· Ability to plan, lead and participate in a range of activities in a variety of outdoor/indoor settings.
· Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with the unique challenges of a non-profit community service organization.
· Ability to work irregular work hours, including nights and weekends, fulfilling MOD rotation requirements.
· Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency.
· Ability to interact with a diversity of people and various levels of personnel using sound judgment on ambiguous issues.
· Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
