Ship Fitters
Must Have:
· Minimum 3-5 Yrs. trade experience
· Basic math, reading and comprehension skills
· Read and interpret blueprints utilizing both metric and standard measurements
· Knowledge of the layout, fit-up and fabrication of steel plate and beam.
· Experience with various trade specific tools such as: grinder, hand torch, hydraulic and ratchet jack, chain fall and/or come-a-long, combination square, framing square, hand level and plumb bob
· Nice to Have:
· 6Ç Yrs. marine, shipbuilding and construction experience
· Knowledge of setting and erecting units with proficiency in the use of Datum Lines
· Familiarity with fit-up, alignment tolerances and advanced blue print reading skills
Job Description:
A First-Class Shipfitter, also referred to as a Journeyman Shipfitter or a Boilermaker, is responsible for various tools and equipment used in the fabrication, assembling and erection of metal components at the various stages in constructing a marine vessel. Ingalls shipyard production areas at times involve working at different heights, confined spaces, different weather conditions as well as multiple shifts 24 hours a day. As with most every position in the shipyard, a Shipfitter may be required to work either day or night dependent upon the number of ships under construction at any one point in time. The shipyard stresses the practice of working safely in all situations, with safety procedures meeting, and most times, exceeding industry standards.
Structural Welders:
Basic Qualifications:
Minimum 3 Yrs. Welding experience in FCAW and SWAW
Ability to pass a military specification welding assessment in the vertical (3G), horizontal (2G) and overhead (4G) positions
Nice to Have
High School diploma or equivalent

A Welder is responsible for the joining together of different types of metal materials with a variety of welding processes; the most basic of which are, Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) also known as "stick welding” and Flux-Core Arc Welding (FCAW) also known as “wire welding.” The shipyard environment is an around the clock manufacturing setting. Ingalls shipyard production areas at times involve working at different heights, confined spaces, different weather conditions as well as multiple shifts 24 hours a day. Pay: $42.00 - $43.00 per hour
