Full Job Description

The YMCA of Broome County seeks a bold, mission-driven leader to make a lasting impact as the Binghamton Branch Executive Director.

Job Description

This is a unique YMCA leadership opportunity. Unlike a traditional branch focused primarily on fitness, aquatics or youth programming, the Binghamton Branch is centered on housing, supportive services, facility operations, and community impact. The YMCA is preparing for a significant housing expansion, and this role will help lead the systems, staffing, partnerships, and operations needed to support that growth.

The Binghamton Branch Executive Director will provide daily leadership and operational oversight for the branch, working closely with the CEO to strengthen housing operations, service delivery, fund development, facility coordination, and community partnerships.

This position is designed as a senior leadership role with significant growth potential. The successful candidate will work closely with the CEO and executive leadership team and may be considered for future advancement opportunities, including long-term executive succession planning, based on performance, organizational needs, and Board approval.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will bring:

A bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, human services, business administration, public administration or a related field; equivalent leadership experience may be considered
At least five years of progressive leadership or management experience
Experience in nonprofit organizations, housing, human services, community development or facility-based operations
A proven ability to lead staff, manage daily operations and maintain accountability across multiple departments
Strong organizational, communication and relationship-building skills
Experience developing and maintaining community partnerships
The ability to manage competing priorities and maintain stable operations during periods of significant organizational change
Experience with budgeting, fund development, grant writing or grant reporting preferred
A practical, hands-on leadership style with sound judgment and strong problem-solving skills
A commitment to the YMCA’s mission and to serving individuals experiencing housing instability
The ability to work collaboratively with the CEO, executive leadership team, Board members, funders and community partners

Essential Functions

Provide day-to-day leadership and operational oversight for the Binghamton Branch, ensuring housing, supportive services, membership programs and facility operations remain safe, effective and well coordinated at all times.
Supervise branch leadership and staff, establish clear expectations, strengthen communication and maintain accountability across all areas of operation.
Oversee the branch’s housing services, gymnasium, fitness center, group exercise offerings and sports leagues, ensuring programs and services are well managed and responsive to community needs.
Coordinate closely with Finance, Maintenance, Human Resources and Executive Leadership to monitor branch performance, staffing, service delivery, budgets and facility needs.
Oversee facility use, safety, maintenance coordination and emergency preparedness, addressing operational challenges promptly and making sound decisions in a fast-moving environment.
Strengthen internal systems and workflows to support efficient operations, consistent service delivery and effective collaboration between departments.
Build and maintain productive relationships with community partners, funders, government agencies and service providers.
Support fund development, grant writing, funding requests, reporting, annual campaign activities and other resource-development efforts as assigned.
Work with the CEO on strategic priorities, supportive services, future program opportunities and the long-term direction of the branch.
Ensure branch practices align with YMCA policies, contractual obligations and applicable regulations.
Represent the YMCA professionally at meetings, community events and partnership discussions.
Provide cooperative support to the West Branch Executive Director and broader YMCA leadership team as needed.
