Full Job Description

Clinical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Laboratory Technician

Birmingham, AL

PCR-Dx of Alabama is a COLA accredited clinical diagnostics laboratory located in Birmingham, Alabama. We perform toxicology screening and confirmation using state of the art techniques such as LC-MS/MS and Automated Immunoassay. Our lab also specializes in pharmacogenetic testing to analyze a person's genes to help healthcare providers find the best medication and dosage.

We are growing and looking for either a Clinical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Laboratory Technician to join our growing team.

Primary Responsibilities:

Ensures specimens received by the laboratory are acceptable for testing according to the lab's criteria.
Changes or prepares reagents, controls as necessary and records such in log.
Labels, accessions and distributes specimens so that integrity of patient identification is maintained throughout processing.
Operates both primary and secondary instrumentation proficiently. Operates, calibrates, conducts performance checks and maintains any clinical laboratory instrument or equipment after orientation.
Troubleshoots basic instrument malfunctions and documents in the appropriate action log. Determines when an instrument's service representative should be contacted for assistance.
Manages and prepares samples for testing per Lab protocol
Assists with specialized functions, such as, but not limited to, quality assurance, quality control, QC review, statistical evaluations and clinical surveys (CLIA/ COLA/CAP)
Helps document and deliver laboratory results and patient information according to the Lab's HIPAA-compliance policies
Other duties as assigned (Inventory, temperature monitoring, etc.)

Job Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology, OR Associates degree in Medical Laboratory Technology from a NAACLS-accredited program recognized by the ASCP Board as qualifying for the MLT required
MT/CLS/MLS certification (ASCP or equivalent)
2 years of clinical laboratory experience performing moderate and high complexity testing preferred
