Mental Health Coordinator

Job Description

SUMMARY/GOAL OF POSITION:

Provides leadership and coordination of school-based mental health services by supporting students' social, emotional, and behavioral well-being. Collaborates with school administrators, counselors, psychologists, community agencies, and families to coordinate interventions, crisis response, mental health programs, staff training, and referrals. Ensures compliance with district policies and state regulations while promoting a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment for all students.

RESPONSIBLE TO:

· Superintendent

QUALIFICATIONS:

· Master’s Degree in Social Work, Counseling, or related field with valid Alabama professional

· licensure

· Experience working with youth, including mental health experience

· Ability to establish rapport with students, families, community partners, and all stakeholders

· Excellent interpersonal, communication, time management, and problem-solving skills

· Physical and emotional ability to perform required work in a fast-paced, high-intensive work

· environment

· Ability to deal with confidential and sensitive information in a professional manner

ESSENTIAL TASKS OF THE POSITION: (Illustrative, not inclusive)

· Implementing comprehensive mental health system to address the needs of students, staff, and families

· Identifying at-risk students and providing needed supports

· Building, collaborating with, and supporting the success of a variety of community agencies and partners serving within the district, including the United Way of Central Alabama, mentoring organizations, student support resources, and more.

· Regularly communicating with community partners to ensure they have what they need to serve within the school district and serving as a liaison for them.

· Working with and referring to mental health service providers serving the district, including Cahaba Medical Care.

· Developing and sustaining prevention and intervention supports and strategies to address student mental health challenges, behavior challenges, attendance challenges, etc.

· Working with faculty, administrators, and district staff to develop a Multi-Tiered Support System (MTSS) to support student Foundational Wellness

· Providing direct services, including crisis intervention, as needed

· Providing professional development and training to teachers and administrators regarding mental health, at-risk students, etc.

· Collaborating with the District Social Worker and leaders to determine the needs of the students (including academic, attendance, behavior, SEL, etc.) and provide supports to students accordingly.

· Supporting Student Support Teams, School and District MTSS Team, School Leadership Teams, and other teams throughout the district

· Possible grant writing

· Attending appropriate professional development provided by the LEA, ALSDE, and/or other entities

· Maintaining documentation of services provided, referrals made, and student progress to ensure appropriate, accurate, and timely data.

· Providing and submitting reports as requested to the school, LEA, Board, and ALSDE.

· Abiding by professional Code of Ethics.

· Adhering to local Board policies, administrative procedures, and other like directives, as well as state, federal, and local laws

· Performing other job-related duties as assigned

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

· 12 Month Employee

EVALUATION: Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of personnel.
