Baptist Health Brookwood Hospital
Schedule: Every Saturday and Sunday, and then as needed
Time: 3:00 PM- 11:00 PM (Sat & Sun)
May require holiday work if it falls on scheduled shift, as well as working during inclement weather.
Training Schedule: 3- 8 week training period. Training will take place on day shift for at least 3 weeks, 7 AM- 2 PM. Training schedule can be flexible.
Serving the Homewood community, Baptist Health Brookwood Hospital is a 595-bed acute-care hospital located in Birmingham, Alabama. The facility offers a full complement of services, including emergency care, cardiovascular care, bariatrics, orthopedics and rehabilitation, and surgical services. It also is one of the largest providers of psychiatric care in the state. The hospital has earned Primary Stroke Center certification from The Joint Commission, and its bariatric program has been accredited as a Comprehensive Center by the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery
Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP). The Women’s Medical Center provides comprehensive women’s services through all stages of life, including gynecologic surgery, maternity care, and labor and delivery services. Additionally, the Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) holds Advanced Certification in Perinatal Care from The Joint Commission.

Position Summary
At Brookwood Baptist Health the Telecommunications Operator implements procedures for processing codes and traumas quickly and accurately.
The telecommunications team is the heartbeat of hospital communication- ensuring seamless connections between patients, families, staff, and departments. Whether it's routing urgent calls, managing overhead paging, or coordinating code alerts, this dedicated team plays a critical role in keeping operations smooth and responsive 24/7. With a focus on accuracy, empathy, and efficiency, our telecommunications professionals are often the first voice heard in a moment of need- bringing clarity, calm, and connection to every corner of the hospital.
Responsibilities:
What you will do

Implements procedures for processing codes and traumas quickly and accurately.

Monitors various alarm systems in work area to quickly and efficiently notify appropriate personnel when an active alarm is received.

Answers and processes a high volume of calls accurately and professionally.

Transfers callers to the proper entity when appropriate.

Takes accurate messages when providing phone coverage for Orlando Health departments.

Operates specialized computer systems/consoles to facilitate the rapid processing of messages, work orders and service requests where appropriate.

Dispatches appropriate personnel by radio or paging system.

Delivers appropriate pages to physicians, on-call personnel and other Orlando Health employees as needed.

Familiar with HICS and is able to function during emergency situations.

Participates in training, orientation and mentoring of new employees.

Conducts overhead pages accurately and professionally.

Maintains flexibility in work schedule in order to meet the needs of the departments 24/7 operations.

Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Baptist Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.

Maintains compliance with all Baptist Health policies and procedures.

Maintains current schedules of on-call personnel as appropriate.

Meets all Orlando Health mandatory and developmental requirements.

Assumes responsibility for professional growth and development and continuing education.

Performs all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education/Training
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- 25 WPM Typing Speed Required
