Civil Engineer/Civil Designer
This position is for a hands-on experienced civil designer with advanced AutoCAD experience. Candidates should be proficient in civil planning using AutoCAD Civil 3D. Projects include a diversity of civil design, retaining wall design, slope stability analysis, wetland mapping, hydrologic and hydraulic models, and stormwater best management practices (BMPs) for residential or commercial site development, solar site development, roadway failures, and other related projects. This position requires in the field site conditions observation, installation inspection and verification, and occasional overnight travel.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate with project managers, designers, and other team members in project planning, design analysis, and plan set production.
- Conduct a linear design for site development. Prepare grading and surface modeling in AutoCAD Civil 3D using corridor modeling and automated surface modeling grading techniques.
- Assist client with permitting, bidding, construction, and as‐built phases of projects.
- Prepare technical reports and exhibits to support planning, permitting and design phases of projects.
- Perform QA/QC construction materials field testing based on experience or with training. This is a key component of the job.
- Perform field geomorphic and geotechnical surveys for site evaluation. Assist with or independently prepare geotechnical reports. This is a key component of the job
Qualifications:
- Minimum: Associate degree in CAD with civil design emphasis, or in civil engineering with CAD capability and at least 3 years of relevant experience.
- Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, geotechnical engineering, or equivalent, with CAD capability and at least 1 year of relevant experience.
- Must demonstrate knowledge and experience in generating alignments, profiles, surface, and earthwork modeling, and be capable of producing plan production drawing sets with minimal direction.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
Other Desirable Qualifications:
- Proficiency using Microsoft Office including Excel.
- Experience with GIS, Web Soil Survey, Lidar, and other mapping survey databases.
- Experience with the preparation of construction documents including erosion control, bid estimates, technical specifications, permitting, and technical reporting.
- An understanding of boundary, topographic, and easement survey information.
- Familiarity with emerging AI applications in engineering—such as computer vision for defect detection, natural language processing for technical documentation analysis, or reinforcement learning for autonomous systems is a plus.
Physical Demands:
- Part of the job requirements and the physical demands include work performed outdoors in weather conditions with potential exposure to wet/humid conditions, extreme heat or cold, traversing uneven surfaces, and lifting supplies or equipment up to 50 lbs.
