SUMMARY:
This position is occupied by people in the Warehouse Department who report to the Warehouse Supervisor. Their main purpose is to operate the equipment needed to fill the demand for bagged and Tote product. They must be capable of relieving all other warehouse personnel.
TASKS: The Essential Functions of this job are listed below:
1. Conduct all activities in compliance with safety and plant rules and Good Manufacturing Practices.
2. Work in the packing area of the warehouse department and is responsible for the operation of the packing, shrink wrapping, conveying, palletizing, stretch wrapping, and pallet handling equipment used on flour bags and all that it entails.
3. Conduct routine maintenance on the department and mill equipment as scheduled and maintain the assigned area in a clean, sanitary condition at all times.
4. Operate the forklift as needed to load trucks and supply empty bags and rolls of wrapping material to the packaging equipment and personnel.
5. Direct the pre-loading, loading, inspection and scaling of bulk trucks and all that it entails.
6. Coordinate the activities of the Floorman and Forklift Operator during the packing, conveying, palletizing, stretch wrapping and warehousing of completed pallets of product in the warehouse
7. Inspect all packaged products for product quality and consistency; inspect all packages for proper code printing and package integrity.
8. Routinely observe and report to supervisor information he/she needs to ensure the preservation of the physical facility, including all utilities, pumps, compressors, boilers, roofs, etc.
9. Carries out the instructions of the Chief or Assistant Chief as spelled out in the Emergency Action Plan in case of an emergency.
REQUIREMENTS:
1. HOURS OF WORK: Work on both shifts, and be subject to overtime, up to twelve hours per day and up to seven days per week for weeks at a time.
2. SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE: Basic knowledge of the process and flow of materials in the plant.
3. MACHINES, TOOLS, EQUIPMENT, ETC: Use common hand and power tools. Operate and be familiar with common electric and electronic devices.
4. GENERAL EDUCATION, REASONING: Apply principles of rational systems to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; to interpret a variety of complex instructions.
5. GENERAL EDUCATION, MATHEMATICS: Add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure; to perform the four operations with like or common decimal fractions; to compute ratio, rate, and percent; to perform arithmetic operations involving all American milling units of measure.
6. GENERAL EDUCATION, LANGUAGE: Use a passive vocabulary of 5-6,000 words; to read at a slow rate; to write compound and complex sentences, using proper end punctuation, and employing adverbs and adjectives. Communicate in complex sentences; using normal word order with present and past tenses; using good vocabulary.
7. PHYSICAL DEMANDS, TYPE: Ascend or descend ladders, scaffolding, stairs, etc., with agility. Maintain body equilibrium to prevent falling from precarious places. Lower the body to floor level and move about with agility. Extend out and retrieve objects outside immediate range. Support oneself and stay in upright position. Press against something with substantial steady force to thrust forward, downward, or outward. Exert a considerable force in order to draw, drag, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion. Raise substantial objects from a lower to a higher position or move objects horizontally from position to position. Maneuver small objects precisely by whatever means. Detect attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature, texture, tension or force by tactile means. Express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word. Perceive the nature of sounds with no less than a 40 dB loss @ 500 Hz, 1,000 Hz, and 2,000 Hz with or without correction. Be subject to substantial repetitive motions of the body or its parts.
8. PHYSICAL DEMANDS, DEGREE: Exert up to 111 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force regularly to move objects.
9. VISUAL DEMANDS: Use visual acuity of mechanics and skilled trades people, where the seeing job is of a non-repetitive nature at or within arm’s reach.
10. PHYSICAL SURROUNDINGS: Enter and work inside filters, bins, hoppers, rooms, pits, and other confined spaces as needed. Be subject to inside environmental conditions: Activities occur both inside and outdoors. Be subject to sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout to be heard above the ambient noise level: Wearing of hearing protection a frequent requirement. Be subject to vibration: Exposure to oscillating movements of the extremities or the whole body. Be subject to atmospheric conditions: One or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system or the skin: Fumes, odors, dusts, mists, or gases. Often required to wear a respirator. Be subject to lubricating oils. Be subject to hazards: Working on ladders, high catwalks, and man lifts, in proximity to moving mechanical parts, electric current devices, and exposure to chemicals.
