Department Information

Indiana University (IU) Bloomington Human Resources (HR) manages day-to-day HR operations and drives the implementation of strategic people initiatives for 26 departments, units, and schools across the IU Bloomington campus. As strategic business partners, we provide subject matter leadership and consulting designed to increase workplace productivity and to develop improved processes for attracting, developing, and retaining people with the required skills and aptitude to meet current and future business needs.

Job Summary

The HR Director is responsible for leading development and execution of the human capital strategy for assigned portfolios. As a key strategic advisor, the HR Director will have close working relationships for the IU Bloomington HR Services portfolio with particular focus on the Student Life leadership team to ensure that HR programs fully support organization objectives and drive strategic results.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

Provides guidance to vice provost and senior leaders during the creation and revision of position descriptions to ensure documented responsibilities are accurate and employee performance expectations are clear. Ensures proper alignment with the university's overall values and strategic objectives
Partners with senior leaders in Student Life to regularly deliver performance reviews that accurately detail employee performance
Performs job analysis for schools and business units to evaluate current jobs and make recommendations for performance improvement to leadership
Develops, implements, and manages the processes for organizational restructures in divisions
Supervises a team of HR professionals to support the needs of employee populations and ensure consistent application of all HR policies, processes, and systems
Serves on the campus HR leadership team with the Senior HR Director to help determine strategic initiatives related to HR for the IU Bloomington campus

General Responsibilities

Develops, motivates and leads a highly effective HR team that delivers value to the organization with expert recruiting, talent and development, succession planning, and other human capital activities
Partners directly with leadership to develop and implement HR strategies. Provides strategic HR oversight to specified client groups, acting as a trusted adviser to leadership
Acts as a primary point of contact for senior leaders, providing expertise and guidance in the areas of organizational performance, culture, and change
Coaches leaders on leadership behaviors and practices focusing on development and performance strategies to promote engagement and a culture of continuous growth and development
Leads key HR processes and initiatives, leveraging and partnering with Centers of Expertise (COE's)
Provides strategic HR consulting and problem-solving solutions on the most complex issues to leadership

Qualifications

Combinations of related education and experience may be considered. Education beyond the minimum required may be substituted for work experience. Work experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted for education.

EDUCATION

Required

Bachelor's degree in human resources, finance, business or a related field

Preferred

Master's degree in a related field

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

5 years of progressively responsible HR or related experience influencing a wide variety of internal stakeholders
2 years of management experience in HR or related fields

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES

Preferred

SHRM-SCP/SPHR within 1 year
Valid driver's license with the ability to be insured by Indiana University

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
