Department Information
The mission of the Office of Finance, Administration and Budget (FAB) is to help ensure fiscal compliance, accountability, and resilience throughout the Indiana University Bloomington campus community. FAB empowers senior leadership and their teams to advance academic priorities through the knowledge, tools, and methodologies needed to sustain fiscal operations including predictive analytics and financial modeling, efficient transaction processing through IU Share, and the development of dashboards that aid operational and strategic decision-making.
FAB serves as a campus partner in fostering fiscal excellence: troubleshooting fiscal challenges, generating insights that uncover risks and surface opportunities, and ensuring that decisions align with the academic mission of each unit and the strategic priorities of the IUB 2030 plan.
Job Summary
Department Specific Responsibilities

Provides financial expertise for units within Campus Leadership.

Responsible for providing financial information, transactional support and account reconciliation.
-
Provides data, processes, and guidance to ensure compliance within IU and IUF policies.

Provides financial summaries for unit leadership, and present information in a way that is meaningful to the audience.

Supports the organization's financial transaction processing.
-
Explores compliance with policy for requested transactions.
- Provides information to request transaction processing from Shared Services.

Reviews financial statements and make adjusting entries in KFS to both actual and budget data.

Reconciles financial statements on a timely basis.

Prepares ad-hoc and scheduled analysis of IU and IUF financial activity, comparing activity to prior years and to budget.
- Draws conclusions about current and projected data.

Synthesizes and presents data in a manner meaningful for unit leaders to react to and make decisions about allocation of resources.

Regularly explains financial concepts to non-financial employees.

Stays knowledgeable about existing and emerging tools, financial policies and processes.
- Participates as appropriate in review of new policies and processes and provide feedback.

Drafts documentation regarding policies and processes to share with employees in the units served.

Provides follow-up communication and training as necessary.
General Responsibilities
-
Applies knowledge to accepted procedures and standards, performs financial and administrative tasks related to managing the daily and long-term financial and/or administrative operations of an organizational unit or an academic, research, and teaching department within a school or college.
- Makes recommendations on policies and guidelines for division/department activities.

Monitors expenditures and statement of accounts to ensure regulatory compliance and fiscal integrity.

Manages general appropriation, endowment, federal and non-federal grants and contracts, and gift funds.
- Develops, plans, and makes recommendations on special projects, which may include space allocations, staffing, equipment purchases, and long-range plans.

Prepares operating and project budget drafts independently and/or in coordination with other finance staff. Regularly explains financial concepts to non-financial employees.

Monitors division/departmental budgets and resolves or recommends resolutions for any significant deviations from approved budgets.

Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Advertised Salary
If filled at Core: up to 55,000, based on experience
If filled at Career: 63,000-65,000, based on experience
