Full Job Description

The Program Assistant is a part-time, hourly position with seasonally variable hours. This position supports a wide variety of Ecology Action Center programs through public outreach, event support, environmental education, field activities, and general program assistance. The position is contingent upon funding.

Essential Responsibilities

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

Assist with community outreach activities, educational events, workshops, and public information booths.
Represent the Ecology Action Center at community events by engaging with residents, answering questions, and distributing educational materials.
Assist with planning, setup, operation, and cleanup of special events, volunteer projects, and educational programs.
Support environmental stewardship activities such as tree planting, native landscape maintenance, habitat restoration, litter cleanups, and other conservation projects.
Operate and maintain tools, equipment, and vehicles necessary for program implementation.
Assist with data collection, recordkeeping, and other administrative support as assigned.
Perform other duties as assigned to support the Ecology Action Center's mission and programs.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate's degree or coursework in environmental science, sustainability, horticulture, natural resources, education, communications, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience will also be considered.
One to three years of experience in environmental programs, community outreach, education, parks or recreation, landscaping, conservation, or related work preferred.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with volunteers, community members, and partner organizations.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in both office and outdoor environments.
Experience operating power equipment, hand tools, trailers, or light equipment is desirable.
Experience with environmental education, volunteer coordination, public engagement, or event support is desirable.
Ability to work occasional evenings, weekends, and extended hours to meet program needs.
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Ability to stand or walk for extended periods and lift up to 40 pounds.
Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, proof of automobile insurance, and an acceptable driving record required.

Weekend and evening hours are required. Position is considered to be onsite and in-person at the Ecology Action Center offices at 202 W College Avenue, Normal, Illinois 61761 and/or other worksites in the community.

The Ecology Action Center is a not-for-profit environmental agency with a mission to inspire and assist residents of McLean County in creating, strengthening and preserving a healthy environment. The EAC acts as a central resource for environmental education, information, outreach, and technical assistance in McLean County.

Pay: From $19.00 per hour
