Full Job Description

Trained Medication Aide (TMA)

SCOPE

The Trained Medication Aide works under the guidance of the Director of Nursing and supervision of the licensed nurse to administer resident medication. In this vital role, you support safe, accurate medication delivery while promoting resident dignity, comfort, and quality of life in accordance with facility policies, state regulations, and federal guidelines. You serve as a team member to promote optimal resident care & contributes to our mission by providing exceptional care and support to our residents, ensuring their comfort and well-being. You are essential for providing person-centered resident care and providing a ministry of gentle service!

**Per Minnesota Department of Human Services guidelines, must have successful passing of background screening. **

ACCOUNTABILITIES

Resident Care

Administer medication by mouth or directly to skin, eyes, ears, nose or rectum.
Report to station charge nurse any physical/behavioral changes in residents, unusual occurrences/observations, residents’ response to care, and/or inability to complete assignments
Administer oxygen & monitor after orders & systems are ready by Licensed Nurse
Reorder medications from pharmacies, checking accuracy before replenishing them in medication cart.
Collect data pertaining to the need for a prn (as needed) medication and reports the data and administration to the licensed nurse providing direction, and administers these medications appropriately.
Report significant information pertaining to administering medications to the licensed nurse providing direction.
Use the six rights at all times when administering medications including recording medications in the Medication Administration Record (MAR). The six rights are: right resident, right medication, right dose, right route, right time, and right record.
Complies with governmental regulations when administering medications.

Other

Demonstrate positive working relationships with coworkers and other departments.
Ensure compliance within the nursing department, organizational policies, systems, regulations and demonstrate a strong commitment to St. Luke’s Lutheran Care Center’s mission of providing a ministry of gentle service and person-centered care.
As part of the overall team, you may be requested to assist in the support of other resident care activities
Use effective communication with residents, families, visitors, coworkers and other health care professionals.
Promote positive image of St. Luke’s Lutheran Care Center by embracing person-centered care with a positive attitude.
Wear name tag during scheduled shift

Adhere to the Code of Conduct and Compliance, Vulnerable Adult Policy, and any other policies in addition to other job specific policies
Attend scheduled mandatory in-services

PHYSICAL & SAFETY REQUIREMENTS

While performing the duties of this job, you are regularly required to walk, handle & feel objects, reach with hands & arms, reach above arm level, communicate effectively & efficiently in person & on the phone. In addition, the physical requirements for this role include, but are not limited to:

Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
Ability to carry up to 35 pounds
Ability to frequently bend, squat, crouch, kneel, and push/pull up to 20 pounds
Vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
Hearing abilities required include ability to hear alarms & resident verbal direction of needs.
Ability to perform warm up stretches prior to shift
Follow standard precautions & infection control practices
Report any work or non-work related injury immediately

Current Minnesota Certified Medication Aide/Trained Medication Aide
Current CPR Certification
Ability to operate a computer & complete required training within the training program
Ability to use GOOD BODY MECHANICS
