Pay Range: Starting at $4,711 per month
Work Location: 414 E. 12th St
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.

Responsibilities

What you’ll do
Oversee day-to-day operations of paralegals in Litigation and Corporate units to ensure attorneys receive timely and effective case support.
Prioritize and assign work to staff, manage workloads, and coordinate the preparation of legal documents to ensure accuracy and on-time completion.
Train paralegals on databases, legal research tools, and processes to improve efficiency and consistency in legal support work.
Review legal research materials including judicial decisions, statutes, and ordinances to ensure drafted documents comply with legal authority.
Maintain a small caseload and perform similar paralegal work as needed to stay current on litigation processes and support team needs.
Serve as a liaison with City departments and contribute to improving processes and procedures that support legal operations.

REQUIRES
An accredited Bachelor’s degree and one (1) year experience in one or more of the following areas: paralegal, law, conducting research and/or investigations, drafting legal documents, or administrative work in a legal setting or law office; OR Accredited Associate’s degree and three (3) years’ experience in one or more of the following areas: paralegal, law, conducting research and/or investigations, drafting legal documents, or administrative work in a legal setting or law office; OR High school graduation and five (5) years’ experience in one or more of the following areas: paralegal, law, research, investigations, drafting legal documents, or administrative work in a legal setting or law office.
Must pass a background check as prescribed by the City.

The minimum education requirement for positions that allow for experience equivalency for an accredited degree is a high school diploma. Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.

If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
