Full Job Description

Full Charge Bookkeeper – Construction / Structural Steel
Deerfield Beach, FL | Full-Time | On-Site

Seeking an experienced Full Charge Bookkeeper with a strong background in construction accounting to support the financial operations of our structural steel fabrication business. This role is ideal for someone who understands the fast-paced nature of construction projects, job costing, subcontractor and vendor coordination, progress billing, and construction-related compliance requirements.

The ideal candidate will be highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing the day-to-day accounting cycle while supporting project financial tracking from contract award through closeout.

Key Requirements

Minimum 5 years of bookkeeping or accounting experience in the construction industry
Strong experience with construction billing, including pay application preparation and submission
Proficiency in QuickBooks and Microsoft Office, especially Excel
Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, bank reconciliations, and general ledger maintenance
Strong understanding of job cost accounting and project cost tracking
Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and subcontractor/vendor documentation
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with AIA billing formats
Knowledge of lien releases, waivers, notice requirements, and subcontractor compliance documentation
Familiarity with retainage tracking, change orders, purchase orders, and contract schedules of values
Experience supporting accounting functions in steel fabrication, subcontracting, or general construction

Roles and Responsibilities

Manage the company’s full-cycle bookkeeping and accounting functions
Process and maintain accounts payable and accounts receivable
Prepare vendor payments and track subcontractor and supplier balances
Perform bank and credit card reconciliations
Process payroll and maintain related records accurately and confidentially
Prepare, track, and submit construction pay applications, including supporting documentation
Monitor retainage, project billing status, and collections
Maintain accurate job cost records by project, phase, and cost code
Track and record change orders, committed costs, and project-related expenses
Assist with contract billing, lien waiver collection, and closeout documentation
Ensure proper organization of financial records for internal reporting, audits, and year-end review
Coordinate with project managers, vendors, customers, and outside accountants as needed
Support management with financial reporting and project cost visibility
Help ensure compliance with construction accounting procedures and documentation requirements
