The purpose of this position is to promote a comprehensive year-round aquatics program to include swim team, junior lifeguard, “Learn to Swim” program, summer camp, special events, and open swimming.
This class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.
The hours of operation of the Peggy Noland Aquatics Complex are Monday - Friday 8:00am - 7:30pm and Saturday - Sunday 9:00am - 4:00pmKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of the principles and practices of public recreation administration.

Knowledge in aquatic management and pool mechanical operations systems.

Knowledge of the rules of play for a variety of sports and games, and the appropriate equipment used and facilities needed.

Knowledge of office practices and procedures.

Knowledge of computer software

Skill in developing, organizing, and promoting recreational activities.

Ability to communicate effectively with City staff and the public.

Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, handle stressful situations, and adhere to prescribed routines.

Ability to work alone with minimal supervision.

Ability to work evenings and weekends.

Ability to work with all age groups including seniors, adults, and youth, with and without special needs

Knowledge of technical procedures and systems such as water rescue duties to include rescue breathing and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR/PR) techniques.

Knowledge of first aid administration

Swim 300 yards continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing. Under 10 mins.

Ability to tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs. Candidates should place their hands under the armpits.

Ability to complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds.

Ability to swim 20 yards starting in the water with the face in or out of the water. Swim goggles are not allowed.

Ability to surface dive, feet-first or head-first, to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object; ability to return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point with both hands holding the object, keeping the face at or near the surface to get a breath of air (candidates should not swim the distance underwater); then exit the water without using a ladder or steps.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.

Performs medium work that involves walking, standing, stooping, jumping, lifting, digging, pushing and raising objects and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis and 50 to 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis.

WORK HOURS:
Full Time - 40 hours per week, rotating schedule within operations of facility - Weekdays between 5:30 a.m. and 8:00 p.m., and Weekends between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. (You may be required to periodically rotate shifts and work nights, special events, aquatic complex programming, private lessons, weekends, and holidays to meet the City’s operational needs.)
Part Time - About 25 hours per week, rotating schedule within operations of facility - Weekdays between 5:30 a.m. and 8:00 p.m., and Weekends between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. (You may be required to periodically rotate shifts and work nights, special events, aquatic complex programming, private lessons, weekends, and holidays to meet the City’s operational needs.)
