Full Job Description

Ophthalmic Technician

Assists medical staff with clinical aspects of the patient's office and surgical experience, The Ophthalmic Technician handles all aspects of patient care at the center. This includes assistance with clinical aspects of the consultation process, pre- and post-op exams and preparation of patients prior to surgery. The Ophthalmic Technician will be trained to assist in surgery.

Responsible for handling inbound and outbound telephone sales inquiries regarding ocular surgery, coordinating patient referrals with eye care providers, and scheduling appointments for patient consultations, exams, and surgeries.

DAILY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Pre-op exams

Auto-Refraction

Auto-Lensometry

Orbscan/Topography

Specular Microscopy

Biometry

A-scan

OCT

Humphrey Visual Field

Patient's Visual Acuity

Manual Refraction

Pupil Measurement

Confrontation Visual Fields

Appropriate History and Chief Complaint Notation

Dilate

Pachymetry

Slit Lamp evaluation

Tonometry

2. Post-op exams

Auto-Refraction

Visual acuity

Manual Refraction

Slit Lamp evaluation

Pachymetry

Tonometry

3. Surgical Assisting Preparation

Sterilizing surgical instruments

Setting up surgical trays

Appropriate Sterile Ophthalmic Technique

Setting up and operating cataract surgical devices

4. Medical supplies and inventory control.

5. Keep exam rooms stocked.

6. Enter all pre and post op data in patient record.

7. Inbound and outbound calls

8. Assist in basic office functions

 Consistent, timely and clear confrontation of issues using correct use of confrontational skills, good problem solving techniques, validation of information and follow-up.

 Maintain effective follow-through of assigned responsibilities in a prompt and efficient manner so that no other divisional process is delayed and supervisory intervention is not required.

 Establish and maintain an atmosphere of trust and honesty always maintaining confidentiality as defined by parties involved.

 Seek out additional duties when assigned work has been completed and as call volume permits.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 Demonstrate outstanding listening skills

 Strong customer-service orientation.

 Excellent telephone skills.

 Ability to work with multiple priorities

 Understanding of and experience with Windows software applications

Certification not required. Surgery Experience a Plus.
