Full Job Description

The Opportunity

A well-established, multi-location equipment dealership is seeking a Director of Asset Management to provide strategic and operational leadership over its equipment assets, inventory, and related capital resources. This role will establish and execute asset strategies that improve utilization, inventory turnover, margin performance, and return on investment while supporting broader dealership objectives.

The Director will partner closely with executive leadership and the Sales, Service, Parts, Finance, and Operations teams. The successful candidate will bring strong equipment-market judgment, disciplined analysis, and the ability to translate asset data into timely business decisions.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the full lifecycle management of new and used equipment assets, from acquisition and deployment through valuation and disposition.

Develop and execute asset strategies that optimize utilization, inventory aging, turnover, margin, and return on investment.

Maintain accurate visibility into asset status, location, valuation, financing, depreciation, and overall performance.

Partner with sales leadership to evaluate trade-in values, market positioning, pricing, and disposition timing.

Develop capital acquisition and inventory plans aligned with financial objectives, operating needs, and market demand.

Monitor equipment availability and forecast future needs using market trends, customer demand, and operating data.

Manage relationships with equipment manufacturers, financing partners, vendors, and other strategic stakeholders.

Ensure compliance with manufacturer requirements, internal controls, and applicable asset-management standards.

Lead and develop team members responsible for inventory control, equipment logistics, and asset reporting.

Use dealership management, telematics, and asset-management systems to evaluate and report on asset performance.

Provide executive reporting on key measures, including aging, margin, valuation, utilization, turnover, and return on investment.

Qualifications

Seven or more years of progressive experience in asset, fleet, or inventory management within an equipment dealership, rental organization, or related industry.

Strong knowledge of agricultural, construction, or comparable heavy equipment and its secondary-market dynamics.

Demonstrated ability to analyze asset and market data, manage capital resources, and improve profitability.

Deep understanding of equipment valuation, inventory aging, trade practices, and relevant market trends.

Strong leadership, negotiation, decision-making, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Proficiency with dealership management systems, telematics platforms, and asset-reporting tools.

Bachelor's degree in business administration, agriculture, finance, supply chain, or a related field; an advanced degree is preferred.

Leadership Profile

Balances strategic perspective with hands-on operational execution.

Uses facts and financial discipline to make timely, commercially sound decisions.

Builds alignment across functions and communicates clearly with executives and operating teams.

Develops accountable teams and establishes consistent processes across multiple locations.

Working Environment

Primarily office-based, with frequent interaction across dealership functions and locations.

Regular visits to equipment lots, warehouses, and service areas to inspect assets and oversee operations.

Periodic travel to dealership locations, auctions, manufacturer or vendor sites, and industry events.

Occasional exposure to outdoor weather conditions and active operational environments.
