Landscape DesignerPosition Summary

The Landscape Designer is responsible for generating profitable landscape construction sales by delivering exceptional customer service, creative design solutions, accurate estimating, and seamless project coordination from initial client contact through project completion and final billing. This position serves as the primary point of contact throughout the sales process and remains actively involved during construction to ensure the client's vision is successfully executed.

Successful Landscape Designers combine consultative sales skills, creative landscape design, technical estimating knowledge, and strong project management abilities to create outstanding outdoor living spaces while achieving company sales, profitability, and customer satisfaction goals.

Essential ResponsibilitiesSales & Client Management

Respond promptly to new sales inquiries.
Conduct discovery calls and qualify prospective clients.
Schedule and perform on-site consultations.
Build trust through professional communication and relationship management.
Identify client goals, lifestyle needs, budget, and project priorities.
Guide clients through the design, proposal, and sales process.
Present landscape designs, estimates, and project proposals.
Consistently follow up with prospective clients to maximize closing rates.
Maintain accurate CRM records, project notes, and sales pipeline information.
Meet or exceed annual sales goals.
Maintain company gross profit expectations on all sold projects.

Landscape Design

Design functional, creative, and aesthetically pleasing residential landscapes.
Prepare conceptual landscape plans and planting layouts.
Design outdoor living environments including:
Patios
Walkways
Retaining walls
Fire features
Water features
Outdoor kitchens
Landscape lighting
Irrigation improvements
Select appropriate plant material based on Idaho climate, site conditions, and maintenance requirements.
Balance creativity with constructability, budget, and profitability.
Revise designs based on client feedback while maintaining project objectives and margins.

Estimating & Proposal Development

Perform accurate quantity takeoffs.
Estimate labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and production costs.
Prepare proposals using LMN estimating software.
Coordinate vendor and subcontractor pricing.
Ensure estimates meet company gross margin requirements.
Review estimates for accuracy and completeness before presentation.
Prepare change orders when project scope changes.
Clearly communicate proposal details and project expectations to clients.

Project Coordination

Conduct complete project handoffs to Production Managers and Supervisors.
Communicate project scope, client expectations, design intent, and special considerations.
Remain actively involved throughout construction to answer questions and resolve design issues.
Visit projects during construction to ensure work aligns with design intent.
Participate in final walkthroughs as needed.
Assist in resolving warranty issues and customer concerns.
Coordinate project closeout, final billing, and customer satisfaction.

Customer Experience

Deliver an exceptional customer experience from first contact through project completion.
Maintain proactive communication throughout every stage of the project.
Respond promptly to customer questions and concerns.
Set realistic expectations regarding scheduling, construction timelines, and project changes.
Build long-term client relationships that generate referrals, repeat business, and positive reviews.

Administrative Responsibilities

Maintain organized electronic project files.
Document all customer communications within company systems.
Prepare contracts, proposals, change orders, and supporting documentation.
Track proposal status and follow-up activities.
Submit paperwork accurately and on time.
Assist with warranty documentation and project closeout as needed.

QualificationsRequired

Proven success in consultative sales.
Working knowledge of landscape construction methods.
Strong estimating and mathematical skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong organizational and time management abilities.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

Preferred

Landscape design experience.
Experience using LMN estimating software.
Experience with Land F/X, AutoCAD, or similar landscape design software.
Knowledge of horticulture and plant identification.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Landscape Architecture, Horticulture, Landscape Design, or a related field.

Physical Requirements

Walk on uneven terrain during site visits and project inspections.
Occasionally lift up to 40 pounds.

Drive throughout the Treasure Valley to client appointments and project sites.
Maintain a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

They are accountable for achieving sales goals, maintaining strong profit margins, communicating effectively with production teams, and ensuring every client receives an exceptional experience from the initial consultation through final project completion.

Compensation

This position includes a base salary plus a performance-based commission structure.

Landscape Designers are eligible to earn commission based on sold landscape construction projects in accordance with the company's current Landscape Designer Compensation Plan. Commission is tied to individual sales performance and is earned by achieving established sales, profit, and company performance goals.

The commission structure, sales goals, eligibility requirements, and payment schedule are outlined in the Landscape Designer Compensation Plan. The compensation plan may be reviewed and updated periodically to align with company objectives and market conditions.

Continued eligibility for commission is contingent upon maintaining satisfactory job performance, adhering to company policies and procedures, and supporting overall company profitability.

Pay: $50,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
