Beehive Academy is seeking an exceptional Art Teacher to develop and lead hands-on visual arts programming for children of varying ages and developmental levels.
All our extracurricular courses are planned from a developmental approach, utilizing the activity itself to teach foundational skills needed for each activity and to thrive in any environment. Using the principles of education and behavior analysis, instructors work with small groups of students (no more than 8 at a time) to teach foundational skills and developmental milestones.
Beehive is not a traditional art studio. Art is both the subject being taught and a tool for developing important underlying skills. Students learn drawing, painting, sculpture, mixed media, design, color, texture, and other artistic techniques while also developing fine-motor skills, visual-motor integration, planning, problem-solving, creativity, communication, attention, flexibility, persistence, and self-expression.
Our classes are intentionally small so teachers can truly teach rather than simply supervise an activity.
The ideal candidate has a strong background in visual arts, significant experience teaching children, excellent classroom-management skills, and enthusiasm for developing creative projects that can be adapted for different ages and abilities.
Our art teacher will be part of an interdisciplinary environment that includes certified teachers, SLPs, OTs, BCBAs, and other developmental specialists.
Salary: $50,000–$70,000 annually, based on education, experience, expertise, and responsibilities.
Duties
- Design and implement personalized art lesson plans for early learners and beginners, focusing on teaching motor skills, listening skills, leisure skills, functional play, abstract thought, etc.
- Conduct engaging group art classes that incorporate fundamental techniques of art, including painting with various materials, craft skills, etc.
- Develop curriculum materials that align with students’ goals.
- Manage classroom environments effectively by applying applied behavior analysis (ABA) techniques and maintaining a positive learning atmosphere.
- Assess student progress regularly through performances, assessments, and feedback sessions; adjust teaching methods accordingly.
- Collaborate with parents, guardians, or program coordinators to ensure student success and address individual needs such as special education or early childhood education requirements.
Skills
- Experience in teaching varied art methods and skills for early learners and beginners.
- Strong curriculum development skills to create innovative lesson plans that cater to various age groups and developmental levels.
- Proven classroom management abilities to foster respectful, disciplined, yet inspiring learning environments.
- Experience working with children and youth programs; familiarity with childhood development principles is highly desirable. Experience with children with developmental and behavioral disabilities is highly desirable.
- Ability to work effectively with students who have special needs or require early childhood education approaches.
- Excellent communication skills for engaging students of all ages while providing constructive feedback and encouragement.
- Experience with ABA or understanding of the principles of behavior analysis is highly desirable.
