Full Job Description

Position summary

Hayton Primary Care is seeking a full-time Medical Assistant to support the delivery of comprehensive, continuity-based primary care to an adult patient population with complex chronic conditions. This is a dual-function role encompassing both clinical support and front-office responsibilities.

The Medical Assistant works under the direct supervision and delegated authority of the supervising physician to perform clinical duties within an established scope, and is cross-trained to perform patient access, scheduling, and front-desk functions. Both clinical and front-office duties are essential functions of this position. Additional administrative support is provided by a remote administrative assistant.

This position is well suited to a candidate who is self-directed, comfortable operating with limited on-site staffing, and capable of maintaining accuracy and professionalism across varied responsibilities.

Essential functions

The following duties are representative of the essential functions of this position. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these functions.

Clinical support

Prepares patients for examination; obtains and accurately documents vital signs, biometric measurements, and chief complaint.
Performs medication reconciliation and updates medical, surgical, family, and social history in the electronic health record.
Performs venipuncture and specimen collection; labels, processes, and coordinates transport of specimens to the reference laboratory.
Performs CLIA-waived point-of-care testing in accordance with established protocols and quality control standards.
Performs electrocardiogram acquisition.
Administers immunizations and injections as delegated (anticipated to be added as practice operations expand).
Maintains examination room readiness, including cleaning, disinfection, instrument handling, supply stocking, and vaccine cold-chain documentation.
Adheres to standard precautions, infection control protocols, and all applicable regulatory requirements.

Front desk and patient access (cross-trained)

Cross-trained to check patients in and out, schedule appointments, and work the front desk.
Greets patients; performs registration, demographic verification, and collection of copayments and balances.
Verifies insurance eligibility and benefits prior to scheduled visits.
Serves as the in-person point of contact for patients, walk-ins, and visitors at the clinic.
Covers incoming telephone calls as needed; documents and routes messages to the physician. Routine call volume is handled by the remote administrative assistant.
Performs appointment confirmation outreach and manages cancellations and no-show follow-up.
Completes chart preparation in advance of scheduled visits, ensuring availability of laboratory results, imaging, and consultant documentation.
Supports referral coordination, prior authorization submission, prescription refill intake, and outside records requests, in coordination with the remote administrative assistant.

Care management

Conducts Chronic Care Management (CCM) outreach, documents time, and tracks monthly completion. Dedicated time is allocated for this function.
Supports annual wellness visit, preventive care, and chronic disease management workflows.
Coordinates with pharmacies, specialists, hospitals, imaging centers, and home health agencies as directed.

General

Contributes to the development and maintenance of clinical and administrative workflows in a newly established practice.
Maintains strict patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and practice policy.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required

Graduate of an approved Medical Assisting program, or equivalent clinical training and experience as permitted under Idaho law.
Current medical assistant certification (CMA, RMA, or CCMA), or the ability to obtain and maintain certification within 90 days of hire.
Demonstrated venipuncture competency.
Current BLS certification, or the ability to obtain it promptly upon hire.
Demonstrated proficiency with an electronic health record and the ability to learn new systems.
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and demonstrated follow-through.
Effective written and verbal communication skills and a professional, patient-centered manner.
Ability to work independently with minimal on-site supervision.

Preferred

Certification already held at time of hire (CMA/AAMA, RMA/AMT, or CCMA/NHA) in good standing.
Two to three years of outpatient medical assisting experience; new graduates will be considered.
Experience in family medicine, internal medicine, geriatrics, or complex adult primary care.
Prior patient access, registration, or front-office experience.
Experience with referral coordination and prior authorization workflows.
Familiarity with eClinicalWorks.
Experience in an independent or small-practice setting.

Pay: $22.00 - $26.00 per hour
