Christ Presbyterian Church Position Description

Part-Time Music Director

Classification: Part Time (20 Hours per week)

Position Status: Exempt, not eligible for overtime

Reports To: Pastor

Coordinates: music ensembles, instrumentalists, and equipment setup team

Version: May 27th

, 2026, as approved by Board

PURPOSE

To provide consistent musical leadership of the Sunday morning worship service. Working

together with the Pastor and Session (when appropriate), this position is responsible for the

development and implementation of a vision for music ministry in the worship service. The

primary measures of success are the engagement levels of the congregation and ability of the

Music Director to identify, equip, and launch musicians and other volunteers.

PRIMARY DUTIES

Collaborate with the Pastor to plan the music for the worship service, including the

selection, preparation, and leadership of music.

Set up microphones, the soundboard, and any other music or technical equipment for the

Sound and AV team to run on Sunday morning worship services.

During sermon, be present with the sound team to troubleshoot any issues in relation to

the sound equipment.

Create opportunities for new musicians and volunteers to be a part of the music ministry

at Christ Pres through auditions or other recruiting techniques.

Provide coordination and mentoring to the music and equipment teams.
Develop and implement all slides on PowerPoint– in correspondence with the Pastor -

for worship each Sunday.

Maintain Planning Center Application as it intersects with Music and AV ministries.
Plan for substitute music leaders when on vacation.
Allowed two Sundays off per year.
Other duties as requested by the Pastor.

Position Tasks Tasks associated with this position will be accomplished, on average, 20 hours per week

according to a weekly schedule broadly outlined as follows: This schedule is subject to

change if/as the position develops.

- Sunday morning worship: 5 hours

- Ensemble rehearsal: 2 hours

- Instrumental rehearsal: 2 hours

- Prepare Sunday morning slides: 2 hours

- Music reading/reviewing: 3 hours

- Worship planning meeting with Pastor: 1 hour

- Equipment maintenance– 2 hours

- Administration– 2 hours

Knowledge/Skills

Personal faith in Jesus Christ and a theology consistent with the Essentials of the

Evangelical Presbyterian Church

Ability to prepare and lead traditional and contemporary worship styles and to lead

ensemble, solo, instrumental, and vocal worship in a manner that fosters the joyful

worship of God by the congregation and reflects the excellence with which all other

aspects of worship are conducted.

Well-rounded knowledge of the vocal/choral music literature, contemporary worship

literature, and biblical theology to ensure the appropriateness of musical type and text to

each setting for worship.

Ability to write, arrange, and transpose music as needed to support worship.
Ability to lead and disciple musicians and other volunteers.
Ability to work with individuals representing a wide spectrum of musical ability and/or

spiritual maturity.

Ability to handle multiple projects, often with tight deadlines, in an organized and timely

manner.

Creative problem-solving skills.
Able to lift and move 30lbs to set up for worship services and musical performances.
Proficient with computers and basic office equipment.

Position Compensation

Compensation is $25,000- $30,000.00 per year dependent upon experience.
When vacation or travel requires the Music Director to be away from Sunday morning

worship, the Music Director will allow sufficient time to coordinate with the Pastor and

the worship planning team for a substitute.

Education/Training

Pay: $25,000.00 - $30,000.00 per year
