About the Agency : The Idaho Division of Career Technical Education (IDCTE) provides administration, leadership, and coordination for secondary and post-secondary programs in career technical education (CTE) across the state of Idaho. With a customer-service focus, the Division leads Idaho’s efforts to prepare youth and adults for high-skill, in-demand careers.
Summary:
The IT Manager II provides leadership and oversight of information technology systems and services for IDCTE. This position is responsible for managing network infrastructure, end-user support, hardware and software systems, and IT operations to ensure reliable, secure, and efficient technology services across the agency.
Working within the Operations team, the IT Manager II collaborates with internal staff and external partners, including the Idaho State Board of Education (OSBE), to maintain system integrity, support users, and plan for future technology needs. This role requires strong technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage systems, resources, and priorities in a dynamic environment.
Responsibilities:
IT Infrastructure and Systems Management
- Manage and maintain network infrastructure, including servers, storage, switches, and end-user devices.
- Ensure reliability, performance, and security of production and DMZ network environments.
- Monitor system performance and address issues affecting network integrity and availability.
Technical Support and End-User Services
- Provide desktop and technical support to agency staff and partners.
- Install, configure, and maintain hardware and software systems.
- Troubleshoot technical issues and resolve user support requests in a timely manner.
Technology Planning and Implementation
- Evaluate, recommend, and implement hardware and software solutions to meet organizational needs.
- Deploy new systems and updates, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
- Coordinate training for staff on new technologies and systems.
IT Budget and Resource Management
- Track and manage IT-related expenditures, including hardware, software, and system upgrades.
- Participate in planning and procurement of technology resources, including capital outlay purchases.
Collaboration and Coordination
- Work collaboratively with OSBE and other partners to support shared systems and infrastructure.
- Coordinate technology support for agency events, conferences, and operational needs.
Training and Organizational Support
- Develop and deliver training to staff on IT systems, tools, and best practices.
- Support agency operations through effective technology solutions and continuous improvement efforts.
- Maintain and check out equipment for agency staff. (Examples: hotspots, extended screens, projector, communication equipment, etc.)
- Provide audio-visual support for agency-related conferences, classes, and trainings.
- Supervisory duties as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Experience managing or supporting IT systems, networks, or infrastructure.
- Typically gained by: Professional experience providing technical support, maintaining networks, or managing IT systems in an organizational setting.
- Experience troubleshooting hardware, software, and network issues.
- Typically gained by: Diagnosing and resolving technical problems for users, systems, or network environments.
- Experience installing and maintaining hardware and software systems.
- Typically gained by: Deploying, configuring, and updating technology systems in a business or organizational environment.
- Experience communicating technical information to non-technical users.
- Typically gained by: Providing support, training, or guidance to staff on IT systems and tools.
- Experience working collaboratively in a team-based environment.
- Typically gained by: Coordinating with internal teams or external partners to support IT operations.
- Experience working in a cloud-based Microsoft 365 tenant with a focus on SharePoint collaboration and governance.
- Typically gained by 3–5 years of experience administering and supporting a cloud-based Microsoft 365 environment, including SharePoint Online collaboration
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, or a related field.
- Experience managing network infrastructure, including Cisco Meraki or similar systems.
- Experience working with state or public sector IT systems.
- Experience managing IT budgets or participating in technology procurement.
- Experience supporting cloud-based systems, security protocols, or enterprise applications.
Experience supporting physical and virtual management of servers and backup systems.
