Position overview:
The School of Nursing at Boise State University invites applications for a full-time, 12-month Associate Divisional Dean. This position is located on the Boise State University campus in Boise, Idaho. Employment visa sponsorship is unavailable for this position.
The Associate Divisional Dean for the School of Nursing (SON) serves as a key member of the School’s leadership team and supports the Divisional Dean in ensuring effective operations, strategic direction, and academic excellence across all programs. The Associate Divisional Dean plays a critical role in advancing the School’s mission, strategic plan, and expected program outcomes while maintaining alignment with the College of Health Sciences (COHS) and university mission and values.
Reporting directly to the Divisional Dean, the Associate Divisional Dean contributes to leadership in academic programs, accreditation and compliance efforts, resource management, and community and campus partnerships. This is a 100% administrative position, with teaching, research, and/or practice as appropriate.
The successful candidate will be a collaborative and innovative leader who brings integrity, sound judgment, and the ability to navigate complex or sensitive matters with professionalism. They will excel in communication, relationship-building, and supporting faculty and staff within a shared governance environment. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strength in operational management, use of technology, financial and strategic analysis, and the ability to guide academic initiatives. They will be adaptable, culturally responsive, and effective in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, maintaining confidentiality while promoting academic and organizational excellence.
Specific activities of the role include:
1. Leadership and General Administration
- Provides day-to-day operational leadership for the School of Nursing in collaboration with the Divisional Dean and Program Directors (Academic Leadership Team).
- Supports development, implementation, and ongoing assessment of the School’s strategic plan and progress toward its goals.
- Assists with responsible budget planning, monitoring, and expenditure oversight, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities.
- Contributes to maintaining compliance with state and national accreditation standards and supports preparation of required reports.
- Participates in curriculum development, revision, and academic program improvement.
- Supports faculty recruitment, onboarding, evaluation, workload coordination, and professional development in partnership with the Divisional Dean.
- Provides leadership and guidance to staff and selected School of Nursing teams; oversees staff hiring and development in consultation with the Divisional Dean and COHS leadership.
- Supports continuous improvement efforts across the School and participates in planning and approval processes for program prioritization and business proposals.
- Co-facilitates Academic Leadership Team meetings and School of Nursing meetings in collaboration with the Divisional Dean.
- Responds to ad-hoc university requests and contributes to ongoing administrative needs of the School.
2. Coordination and Communication within the School, University, and Community
- Ensures timely communication with the Divisional Dean, Academic Leadership Team, faculty, staff, and students.
- Builds and supports partnerships across the College, University, and broader community to advance the School of Nursing’s mission.
- Collaborates on membership and agenda planning for the School’s Strategic Advisory Board.
- Represents the School in community, state, and national associations, as delegated by the Divisional Dean.
- Collaborates with University leadership, including the Deans and Provost’s Office, in communications with the State Board of Education and legislative liaison.
- Provides oversight and guidance in addressing faculty, staff, and student concerns, consulting with the university’s general counsel as appropriate.
- Supports strategies to improve graduation rates, strengthen student success, and advance the School’s commitment to serving diverse learners.
- Promotes interprofessional and interdisciplinary partnerships across campus.
- Supports public relations, alumni engagement, and development activities in collaboration with the Divisional Dean and University partners.
- Maintains awareness of local and regional healthcare needs and trends to guide program innovation.
3. Management of Resources
- Carries out responsibilities in accordance with university policies and applicable laws.
- Supports productivity, efficiency, and effective resource utilization across the School.
- Assists the Divisional Dean and COHS Senior Business Manager in fiscal and physical resource oversight, including:
- State appropriated, local, and self-support budgets
- Physical space management
- Equipment, supplies, and academic support services
- Collaborates with Program Directors to pursue additional financial resources aligned with School priorities.
- Provides support in managing student and/or program fees and ensuring resources align with programmatic needs.
4. Teaching/Service/Research
- May participate in teaching according to specialty, workload availability, and School needs.
- Engages in research/scholarship as discipline and responsibilities allow.
- Participates in University, community, and professional service as appropriate.

Minimum qualifications:
- Is a registered nurse, licensure in Idaho or Compact states
- 3+ years leadership/managerial experience
- Demonstrated record of teaching, research, service and/or experience meriting appointment
- Leadership experience in higher education
Preferred qualifications:
- Proven record of service to the University or community of interest
- Certification or degree in advanced nurse leadership, nursing education, or administration.

Salary and Benefits:
Salary starts at $112,000 and is commensurate with experience.
