Kitchen Steward & Culinary Support
Department: Food & Beverage – Culinary
Reports To: Executive Chef / Sous Chef
Position Summary
The Kitchen Steward & Culinary Support team member plays an essential role in maintaining the cleanliness, organization, and efficiency of the kitchen while providing support to the culinary team during food preparation and service. This position is responsible for ensuring all kitchen equipment, cookware, and service ware are properly cleaned and sanitized, while also assisting with prep work and rotating onto kitchen stations as business needs require.
This role is ideal for an individual who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, takes pride in organization and cleanliness, and is interested in developing culinary skills through cross-training.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Kitchen Steward Responsibilities
- Wash, sanitize, and properly store dishes, glassware, utensils, cookware, and kitchen equipment.
- Operate commercial dishwashing equipment safely and efficiently.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary dish room throughout each shift.
- Remove trash, recycling, and kitchen waste while maintaining cleanliness standards.
- Sweep, mop, and sanitize kitchen floors and work areas.
- Clean and organize storage areas, coolers, walk-ins, and kitchen equipment.
- Assist with daily, weekly, and monthly deep-cleaning assignments.
- Ensure all health department and food safety standards are consistently maintained.
Culinary Support Responsibilities
- Assist chefs with food preparation, mise en place, and basic cooking tasks.
- Prepare ingredients including washing, peeling, chopping, portioning, and labeling.
- Restock line stations and kitchen supplies throughout service.
- Rotate onto prep, pantry, fry, grill, sauté, or other stations as trained and directed.
- Follow standardized recipes and presentation guidelines.
- Assist with banquet, buffet, and special event preparation.
- Support the culinary team during peak service periods to ensure efficient kitchen operations.
Qualifications
- Previous restaurant or kitchen experience is preferred but not required.
- Willingness to learn multiple kitchen stations and culinary techniques.
- Strong work ethic with a positive attitude.
- Reliable attendance and punctuality.
- Ability to follow directions and work independently when needed.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
- Commitment to cleanliness, organization, and food safety.
- Food Handler Card – or ability to become certified within a month of joining BRMC.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to bend, reach, twist, and perform repetitive movements.
- Comfortable working in hot, humid, wet, and fast-paced kitchen environments.
