About the role
RNWBL is seeking an experienced Traveling Balance of Plant (BOP) Technician II to support utility-scale Solar, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), High Voltage, and Balance of Plant infrastructure throughout the United States.
This role is ideal for an experienced Solar Technician, BESS Technician, Renewable Energy Technician, or Electrical Technician who enjoys working in a fast-paced, travel-based environment. You'll perform preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance, troubleshooting, commissioning support, warranty repairs, and emergency response activities on some of the country's largest renewable energy facilities.
This position requires up to 100% nationwide travel based on customer and operational needs.

Travel extensively to utility-scale Solar, BESS, and Balance of Plant facilities throughout the United States.

Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on Solar PV systems, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), High Voltage equipment, and Balance of Plant infrastructure.

Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair DC electrical systems, combiner boxes, string wiring, PV modules, and associated equipment.

Diagnose and repair tracker systems, including motors, actuators, drives, gearboxes, and control components.
-
Perform inspections, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on central and string inverter systems.

Utilize electrical testing equipment to diagnose equipment performance and verify repairs.

Troubleshoot equipment using SCADA, PLC, DAS, EMS, BMS, PCS, and plant monitoring systems.

Support Medium Voltage transformer isolation, switching activities, substation maintenance, and protective relay troubleshooting.

Complete digital work orders, maintenance reports, inspection documentation, and parts tracking.

Support commissioning, startup, retrofit, warranty, and emergency outage projects.

Conduct Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), pre-job briefings, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and hazardous energy control procedures.

Partner with Site Leads, Regional Managers, customers, and fellow technicians to safely execute maintenance activities while maintaining compliance with OSHA, NEC, NFPA 70E, and RNWBL safety standards.
Qaulifications

Minimum two (2) years of experience in utility-scale Solar, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), renewable energy, electrical maintenance, mechanical maintenance, or related industrial power generation.

Ability to travel up to 100% throughout the United States.

Ability to work flexible schedules, including overtime, weekends, and emergency response assignments.

Working knowledge of Solar PV systems, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), Balance of Plant (BOP) equipment, Medium Voltage transformer isolation, High Voltage systems, and substation switching.

Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, OEM manuals, and technical documentation.

Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills.
-
Experience working with SEL relays, GE relays, RTACs, or similar protection and control systems.
-
Knowledge of Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), hazardous energy control, and electrical safety practices.
-
Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

Ability to work safely outdoors in varying weather conditions and remote project locations.

OSHA 10 and/or OSHA 30 Certification.

NFPA 70E Certification.

Medium Voltage Switching Qualification.

Experience troubleshooting central or string inverter platforms.

Experience supporting utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).

Experience with High Voltage and Medium Voltage electrical systems.

Experience with lithium-ion battery technologies.

Experience with Sungrow, Tesla Megapack, Fluence, Powin, Wärtsilä, CATL, BYD, or comparable BESS platforms.

Experience utilizing SCADA, DAS, EMS, BMS, PCS, and plant monitoring systems.
-
NERC, Qualified Electrical Worker, or Substation Switching certification.
-
Utility-scale Wind Operations & Maintenance experience.

Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
-
Ability to walk on uneven terrain.
-
Ability to climb ladders and work at elevated heights when required.
-
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
-
Ability to safely perform work in industrial and utility-scale renewable energy environments.
