Full Job Description

Join a highly respected investment and real estate management company in Cambridge as anAssistant Property Controllersupporting a large, complex portfolio of commercial, lab, retail, residential, and development assets. This is an outstanding opportunity for a seasoned real estate accounting professional who enjoys process improvement, cross-functional collaboration, and high-visibility work in a mission-driven environment.

If you are a Senior Property Accountant looking to make a jump or an Accounting Manager or Assistant Controller looking something new, this organization has a great reputation for culture and will consider candidates who can put their ego aside and collaborate on the mission, especially those who have beeninvolved in system and process improvements, change management, and just overall organizational improvements within one of their past roles in property accounting.

While the title is an Assistant Controller, the new hire will start out as an individual contributor and will then eventually start managing the work of some of the Property Accounting team.

Key Details

Work Arrangement:Hybrid withonsite in Cambridge Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday; remote Monday and Friday set-up.
Compensation:$150,000$160,000 base salary
Bonus:Target bonus potential of approx$10,000$20,000 annually

Work closely with internal stakeholders, outsourced property management teams, and external partners in a collaborative, high-performing environment

Responsibilities

Oversee day-to-day accounting and finance-related activities for an outsourced property management function
Review lease terms and related activity in property accounting systems and escalate issues as needed
Maintain the integrity of real estate subledgers and support accurate data flow into reporting systems
Partner with accounting and asset management teams to enhance processes and reporting deliverables
Identify accounting gaps, risks, and policy improvement opportunities
Lead monthly, quarterly, and year-end portfolio review processes
Partner with external auditors for annual and standalone audit activity
Support joint venture administration and related accounting processes
Help manage treasury activity and portfolio cash position
Track debt terms, key dates, and covenant-related compliance requirements
Support regulatory and tax-related compliance activity
Facilitate transitions between development-stage and operating properties
Research accounting issues and assist with special projects and initiatives as needed

Required Qualifications

At least6 years of real estate accounting experience
Demonstrated experience with process improvements, systems enhancements, change management, or organizational improvements
Experience at theAccounting ManagerorAssistant Controllerlevel, or closely related experience
Strong understanding of property accounting and financial reporting
Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field

Strongly Preferred Qualifications

Experience withYardiand/orRealPage
CPA
Experience withjoint ventures
Experience across multiple asset classes such as commercial, lab, retail, and/or residential real estate
Experience with leasehold and fee simple accounting
