Full Job Description

The application portal for our 2027 Summer Associate position is now open. This 2L position is open to all full-time, first-year law students who expect to graduate from an ABA-accredited law school in 2028. We will review submissions and extend offers on a rolling basis. Klein Hornig is one of the nation’s premier law firms concentrating exclusively on affordable housing and community development. Our 50+ lawyers in Washington, DC and Boston, MA focus on structuring and closing all types of multilayered real estate transactions that develop and preserve affordable housing and revitalize communities. We serve clients ranging from neighborhood community development corporations, small nonprofits, charter schools, health centers, and housing authorities to national developers, lenders, and investors. Our clients’ projects pose complex challenges, from combining novel financing sources, to navigating regulatory pitfalls, to addressing complicated tax structures, to solving difficult real estate issues. No matter the challenges, we never lose sight of what we and our clients are working to create – affordable housing and community institutions for real people.

We hire second-year law students as paid Summer Associates in our two offices located in Washington, DC and Boston. We occasionally hire interns during the academic year as well. Our Summer Associate program is an important long-term recruiting effort, and we are proud of our partners and associates who began their Klein Hornig careers as Summer Associates. In recent years we have been pleased to extend offers to most of our Summer Associates.

During their time at Klein Hornig, Summer Associates take on tasks similar to a first-year associate, including drafting documents, reviewing diligence and deal documents, and participating in client calls. Summer Associates will receive constructive feedback on their work and have the opportunity to learn more about the field of affordable housing and community development through firm trainings. Each summer associate is also assigned a partner and an associate to serve as mentors during their time at the firm and guide their learning and introduction to the field.
