Education Specialist

Job Description

Healing Abuse Working for Change, Inc., creates social change by taking action against personal and societal patterns of violence and oppression. Since 1978, HAWC has provided free services and support to victims of domestic abuse on Massachusetts’ North Shore to help them make informed, independent decisions about their futures. General Description:

This full-time (40 hours/week) position is responsible for facilitating engaging, evidence-informed prevention education programs that promote healthy relationships, strengthen protective factors, prevent interpersonal violence, and foster trauma-informed communities. The Education Specialist delivers interactive workshops and trainings for middle school students, high school students, college students, parents and caregivers, school personnel, volunteers, community organizations, and other community partners. This position also assists with the facilitation of HAWC's pre-service and volunteer training program.

This is an hourly position with annual compensation in the range of $50,000–$52,000, with additional compensation of $1,500 per year for bilingual language proficiency. Salary is commensurate with experience. This hybrid position includes both remote and in-office work, reports directly to HAWC's Manager of Education Programs, and requires a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings and weekends, to accommodate school, community, and partner trainings and events.

Position Responsibilities:

Recognizing that we strive to model the healthy relationships we teach, contribute to a collaborative, trauma-informed, strengths-based team culture by practicing the healthy relationship skills taught through HAWC's prevention education programs, including respect, kindness, healthy conflict, taking responsibility, and fun.
Facilitate engaging, interactive prevention education workshops and trainings for middle school, high school, and college students, as well as for parents and caregivers, school personnel, and community partners.
Adapt educational content and facilitation strategies to meet the developmental, cultural, linguistic, and accessibility needs of diverse audiences.
Collaborate with the Manager of Education Programs to develop, refine, implement, and evaluate prevention education curriculum, training materials, and educational resources.
Assist with the planning and facilitation of HAWC’s Pre-Service and volunteer training program.
Support the implementation of awareness and prevention initiatives, including Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month and other community education campaigns.
Represent HAWC at schools, community events, coalition meetings, and collaborative initiatives while building strong relationships with educators, community partners, and stakeholders to strengthen prevention education efforts.
Collect participant feedback and complete program evaluations to support continuous quality improvement and grant reporting.
Maintain accurate outreach, training, and program data in HAWC’s data management system.
Collaborate with the Education Program Intern, Children’s Services Advocate, and other HAWC departments to support coordinated programming and organizational initiatives.
Participate in cross-departmental projects and other duties as assigned to advance HAWC’s mission.

Position Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, psychology, public health, human services, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience working directly with youth in school, community-based, or nonprofit settings.
Experience facilitating educational workshops, trainings, or presentations for youth and/or adult audiences.
Comfort facilitating conversations related to healthy relationships, consent, boundaries, trauma, and interpersonal violence in developmentally appropriate ways.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including strong public speaking and group facilitation abilities.
Ability to read the room and adapt facilitation strategies to support meaningful engagement across diverse audiences.
Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities independently.
Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, schools, and community partners while also demonstrating initiative and sound judgment.
Commitment to maintaining professional boundaries, confidentiality, and ethical practice.
Commitment to equity, cultural humility, accessibility, and continuous learning.
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings and weekends.
Reliable transportation for travel throughout HAWC’s service area.

Preferred Qualifications & Characteristics:

The ideal candidate is an engaging educator who enjoys building authentic relationships with young people and adults alike. They are curious, collaborative, and committed to creating learning environments where participants feel safe, respected, and empowered to grow.

Demonstrated understanding of trauma-informed practice and its application in educational settings.
Understanding of neurodiversity, mental health, behavioral health, and inclusive educational practices.
Familiarity with the Massachusetts public education system, including special education, IEPs, and 504 plans.
Experience supporting parents and caregivers through educational workshops, trainings, or community engagement.
Experience collaborating with educators, community organizations, and multidisciplinary teams.
Ability to create welcoming learning environments that foster belonging, participation, and healthy relationships.
Bilingual or multilingual language skills are strongly encouraged. Spanish language proficiency is highly valued due to the needs of the communities HAWC serves.
