About Just Horizons Alliance

Just Horizons Alliance is a nonprofit research and innovation organization focused on the human impact of emerging technology. Our work on artificial intelligence focuses on developing practical approaches for evaluating AI systems and supporting their responsible adoption in high-impact settings.

We are expanding our work with K–12 school systems and are seeking a Manager, K–12 AI Strategy & Implementation to help develop and implement this work with district partners.

The Role

The Manager will work directly with school districts to strengthen how they evaluate, adopt, govern, and use artificial intelligence.

The role combines district engagement, program development, and implementation. The Manager will work closely with district leaders and staff to understand existing policies and practices, identify gaps, develop practical approaches, and support implementation.

An important part of the role will be looking across individual district engagements to identify common needs and translate what we learn into resources and approaches that can be applied more broadly. This requires someone who can understand the particular needs of a district while recognizing where common approaches can reduce duplication and improve practice across school systems.

The Manager will also help grow JHA's work with school systems by developing relationships with prospective district partners, understanding their needs, and helping shape potential engagements.

The Manager will work closely with JHA leadership, researchers, technical experts, and external partners. This person does not need to be an AI researcher or engineer, but should be able to work effectively across technical and non-technical teams and translate research and evaluation findings into practical guidance for school systems.

Qualifications

We are interested in candidates with experience developing and implementing complex initiatives in K–12 education or closely related environments. Candidates may come from school systems, education nonprofits, education technology, consulting, government, research organizations, or other relevant settings.

Strong candidates will bring:

Approximately 5–8+ years of relevant professional experience.
Experience working with K–12 school systems and a strong understanding of how districts operate.
Experience managing complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives from planning through implementation.
Demonstrated ability to develop new programs, processes, or operating models rather than solely administering established programs.
Experience building relationships with senior decision-makers and helping translate identified needs into programs, partnerships, or engagements.
Strong judgment and the ability to make progress when requirements and solutions are still evolving.
Ability to work effectively with senior leaders as well as operational and practitioner teams.
Strong facilitation, project management, and stakeholder management skills.
Excellent written communication and the ability to make complex subjects clear and actionable.
Ability to synthesize information across multiple organizations and identify common patterns and needs.
Interest in artificial intelligence and its implications for education, with sufficient technical fluency to collaborate effectively with researchers and technical experts.
Willingness to travel regularly to participating school districts.

Experience with AI governance, education technology, technology procurement, organizational change, professional learning, responsible technology, or technology implementation is valuable but not required.

What Success Looks Like

The Manager will establish strong working relationships with school systems and help translate JHA's research and evaluation work into approaches that districts can use in practice.

They will help grow JHA's network of district partners and move prospective relationships from initial conversations toward substantive engagements. They will also ensure that district work is well managed, useful to participating school systems, and contributing to a broader body of tools and knowledge.

Over time, the Manager will help identify which approaches can be applied across school systems, which require local adaptation, and where additional resources or expertise are needed.

Success will be reflected in both the strength of JHA's district relationships and the quality and usefulness of the work produced with them.

Pay: $110,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
