Full Job Description

The Senior Accountant is responsible for managing grant-related accounting activities and ensuring accurate financial reporting in compliance with GAAP, Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200), and funder requirements. This role supports a healthcare nonprofit organization by overseeing grant budgets, financial reporting, audits, and internal controls while collaborating with program and development teams.

Key Responsibilities

Grant Accounting & Compliance
- Manage accounting for federal, state, local, and private grants
- Track grant revenues and expenditures to ensure compliance with grant agreements
- Prepare and submit grant financial reports and reimbursement requests
- Monitor grant budgets and identify variances; collaborate with program managers on corrective actions
- Ensure compliance with Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200) and funder regulations
- Support grant-related audits and site visits
General Accounting
- Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end close activities
- Maintain restricted and unrestricted fund accounting
- Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Reconcile balance sheet and income statement accounts
- Ensure proper revenue recognition for grants and contracts
Financial Reporting & Audit Support
- Assist with annual financial audits, Single Audits, and funder audits
- Prepare schedules and supporting documentation for auditors
- Ensure accurate tracking and reporting of restricted funds
Internal Controls & Process Improvement
- Maintain and strengthen internal controls related to grants and financial reporting
- Document grant accounting procedures and policies
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and automation
Collaboration & Support
- Partner with program, development, and operations teams on grant financial matters
- Provide financial guidance and training to non-finance staff as needed
- Support budgeting and forecasting related to grant-funded programs

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
5+ years of accounting experience, including significant grant accounting experience
Experience in nonprofit and/or healthcare organizations
Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit fund accounting
Experience with Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200)
Proficiency in accounting systems and Excel

Compensation: $70,000 to $90,000 annually
Compensation is based on a range of factors that include relevant experience, knowledge, skills, other job-related qualifications.
