Full Job Description

We’re looking for a grounded, capable leader to join our team as Kitchen Manager / Sous Chef at The Twig Café. Our ideal candidate knows how to balance accountability with empathy — someone who leads by example, keeps the kitchen calm and organized, and maintains high standards without bringing ego or chaos into the space. The Twig is a down-to-earth café that flows between busy rushes and slower, steady stretches. We need someone who can adapt to both with grace — moving fast when needed, but keeping the team centered and focused. This is a low-drama, high-integrity environment, and we’re looking for someone who values teamwork, communication, and consistency just as much as great food. There is room to grow and lots of creative freedom for the right person.

Compensation

The base pay for a supervisor is $20-22/hour. IN ADDITION, the kitchen staff istipped at an average of $4-$8/hour. You will be started at that wage until fully trained in all duties (2-4 weeks) After which final pay and growth scale will be agreed upon.

We assess compensation at regular intervals to make sure we are offering a competitive living wage.

Responsibilities

Assess inventory to determine prep production, manage stock
Delegate prep and other tasks to staff daily
Run breaks for all kitchen staff effectively
Ability to efficiently command the line and delegate tasks
Keep all kitchen areas clean, organized and running efficiently at all times
Training of other staff upon hiring or changing of procedure
Label and stock all ingredients on shelves
Measure ingredients and seasonings to be used in cooking
Prepare cooking ingredients by washing, chopping, cutting etc.
Prepare simple dishes such as salads, breakfast food, sandwiches etc. in an efficient manner.
Maintain a clean and orderly kitchen by washing dishes, sanitizing surfaces, taking out trash etc.
Ensure all food and other items are stored properly
Comply with nutrition and sanitation guidelines
Perform other kitchen duties as assigned
Help create seasonal menus
Cover shifts as needed
Work in conjunction with other café management
Provide a positive work environment
Willing to help people learn and grow with patience and reassurance.

Requirements:

Ability to speak and read English FLUENTLY
4 years of kitchen experience, bonus for café / breakfast experience
At least 2 years supervising
Patient with an ability to stay positive under pressure
Good physical condition and endurance
Mostly open and flexible availability (reasonably)
Ability to cover shifts as needed (reasonably)
Acquire a food handler's permit within two weeks of hire date. Bonus if you have a manager certification
Must be reliable and dependable frequent tardiness or call-outs will not be tolerated
