Job Summary

The Technical Support Specialist I provides frontline technical support to customers and serves as the first point of contact for product questions, troubleshooting, warranty requests, and general support inquiries. This role supports customers using energy monitoring and metering products, including questions related to installation, configuration, connectivity, data accuracy, and product operation.

This position works within the Support department to respond to customer inquiries, monitor incoming support queues, manage support tickets, document troubleshooting steps, and escalate issues when needed. The role interacts regularly with customers, Technical Support staff, Sales, Operations, and other internal teams to ensure support requests are handled accurately and in a timely manner.

Key Responsibilities

Respond to customer inquiries by phone, email, and ticketing system during standard business hours.
Review, triage, categorize, and assign incoming support tickets to the appropriate individual, group, or department based on issue type, urgency, customer needs, and internal support processes.
Assist with remote troubleshooting for device connectivity, WiFi, Ethernet, cellular connections, LAN access, basic network settings, and device availability.
Assist customers with basic product setup and configuration questions, including sensor setup, device behavior, and general data review.
Escalate technical issues to senior support, Engineering, Sales, or Operations when the issue exceeds current scope, access, or knowledge level..
Maintain ownership of support tickets, including follow-up, documentation, tagging, and resolution.
Document customer interactions, troubleshooting steps, findings, next steps, and outcomes within the ticketing system.
Use internal systems including Freshdesk, NetSuite, internal knowledge base articles, SOPs, and communication tools to manage and resolve customer requests.

Required Qualifications

1 to 3 years of experience in customer service, technical support, or a related role.
Experience working within a ticketing, helpdesk, CRM, or case management system.
Basic troubleshooting experience with hardware, software, network-connected devices, or similar technical products.
Basic computer and networking knowledge, including WiFi, Ethernet, IP configuration, DHCP, and general internet connectivity.
Ability to explain technical information clearly to non-technical users.
Experience handling phone and email-based customer support.
Strong attention to detail when documenting customer interactions, troubleshooting steps, and outcomes.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to follow documented procedures and ask for help when an issue requires additional support.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience supporting technical hardware, IoT devices, energy monitoring equipment, networking equipment, or similar products.
Basic familiarity with electrical concepts such as voltage, current, power, breakers, phases, CTs, and metering.
Experience with Freshdesk, NetSuite, or similar ticketing, CRM, or ERP systems.
Experience using internal knowledge base articles, SOPs, or documented troubleshooting workflows.
Familiarity with solar, battery storage, utility metering, Modbus, BACnet, APIs, cellular modems, or data logging systems is a plus, but not required.

Skills and Attributes

Strong troubleshooting mindset with the ability to ask good questions, follow symptoms, and document findings clearly.
Customer-focused communication style with the ability to remain calm, professional, and helpful.
Comfortable adjusting communication based on the customer’s technical background.
Detail-oriented and consistent with ticket notes, tagging, documentation, and internal handoffs.
Willing to learn technical concepts related to energy monitoring, networking, electrical systems, and customer installations.
