Full Job Description

Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Sr. Estimator /Project Manager is an integral member of DBI, responsible for managing projects across the full lifecycle, from initial bid through completion. This role delivers detailed and accurate time, material, and labor cost estimates pre-award, then transitions into active management of budgeting, planning, scheduling, problem solving, and change management post-award. The Sr. Estimator /Project Manager builds and maintains strong relationships with DBI employees, subcontractors, and customer representatives, and contributes to the identification and implementation of companywide process and technology improvements. Project scopes include metal framing, drywall, finish, and insulation, with project sizes typically ranging from $250K to $15M.

Duties

Execute High-Precision Estimates: Deliver highly accurate, granular cost estimates for labor, production rates, time, and materials across all assigned project scopes.
Master Complex Bid Cycles: Thoroughly review and interpret project specifications, bid instructions, architectural drawings, scopes, and schedules, managing up to 5 rounds of bidding on large-scale projects.
Bid & Pipeline Management: Track, organize, and maintain records of cost development and project opportunities through the sales pipeline, managing multiple rounds of bidding as needed.
Subcontractor & Supplier Relationships: Source quotes and build working relationships with subcontractors and material suppliers to support accurate and competitive bids.
Budget Development & Control: Partner with the preconstruction and operations teams post-award to establish project budgets and production baselines, then work with the field team to actively monitor and control budgets through project completion.
Resource Scheduling: Work with the internal team to schedule resources including manpower, subcontractors, materials, and equipment.
Change Management: Stay on top of the change process, expeditiously processing change requests and following up to ensure change orders are issued in a timely manner.
Project Issue Resolution & Operational Support: Work with field operations to proactively identify and solve project issues throughout execution, providing estimating and technical support to mitigate scope gap risks.
Job Site Visits: Attend job site visits and project meetings to verify conditions, monitor progress, and support trade coordination.
Historical Cost Tracking & Bid Accuracy: Maintain detailed records of job costs to continuously improve future estimating accuracy.
Process Improvement: Identify operational processes with potential for improvement, develop a business case, evaluate options, implement solutions, and manage adoption across the company.
Mentorship: Mentors and develops junior estimators through hands-on guidance, takeoff review, and knowledge sharing on estimating standards and best practices.
Team Development: Serves as a resource for less experienced team members by providing feedback on bids, clarifying scope interpretation, and supporting their growth in the estimating process.

Qualifications

Precision Cost Modeling: Perform comprehensive quantity takeoffs and build detailed labor and material estimates with a keen eye on risk and scope gaps and strategic opportunities.
Business Development & Relationships: Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with customer preconstruction teams, project managers, and vendors to ensure a consistent pipeline of work.
Strategic Opportunity Identification: Proactively scan the market for emerging opportunities and evaluate bid strategies to maximize win rates and project margins.
Specialized Trade Knowledge: Deep, firsthand knowledge of commercial construction operations, with a strict emphasis on metal framing, drywall, finish, ACT, and insulation.
Advanced Document Fluency: Master-level ability to read, interpret, and cross-reference complex construction drawings, structural specifications, contracts, and master schedules.
Material & Method Expertise: Strong, up-to-date knowledge of advanced construction materials, installation methods, and regional labor productivity rates.
Project Management: Experience managing budgeting, scheduling, planning, and change management from project award through completion.
Process & Technology Aptitude: Ability to identify operational inefficiencies and contribute to the implementation of process and technology improvements.
Digital Takeoff Tools: Experience with modern digital takeoff software (The Estimating Edge or willingness to learn)
MS Excel: Advanced-level spreadsheet skills required.
AI Tools (Preferred but not required): Familiarity with AI-driven construction technology, automated takeoff tools, or predictive cost-estimation software to increase speed and accuracy. Ability to use LLM to assist in daily tasks (Claude)
Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive commercial estimating experience.
Engineering or Construction Management degree preferred, or equivalent field experience.

Pay: $100,000.00 - $140,000.00 per year
