SUMMARY:
Souder, Miller & Associates is recruiting a full-time CAD Technician V for the Environmental Technical Sector in the Arvada, Colorado office. We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented drafter/designer who can successfully multitask across numerous projects while maintaining effective communication with project managers, engineers, and design staff. The CAD Technician V will directly support and coordinate with the Project Manager and multidisciplinary design teams on a variety of environmental and solid waste facility projects.
The ideal candidate will have experience preparing civil and environmental design drawings for projects such as landfill expansions, grading and drainage improvements, leachate and stormwater management systems, landfill gas collection systems, transfer stations, and other solid waste infrastructure facilities. The successful candidate must be able to work under pressure, meet deadlines and budgets, and function effectively as part of a collaborative team environment. The candidate should be familiar with the application of engineering technology principles, methods, and techniques and be capable of completing a wide variety of tasks using AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or Carlson software.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

Knowledgeable of National CAD Standards and proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or Carlson software.

Prepare grading, drainage, utility, erosion control, and site development plans for environmental and solid waste facility projects.

Develop landfill design components including base grades, liner grades, interim and final cover grading plans, stormwater conveyance features, sedimentation ponds, leachate collection systems, landfill gas infrastructure, and access roads.

Perform earthwork and airspace volumetric calculations for landfill and site development projects.

Process and manage various forms of data including XML files, survey point data, GIS data, shapefiles, LiDAR, Land Desktop files, and drone survey information.

Assist in the analysis of reports, maps, drawings, geotechnical data, and testing information to support project planning and design.

Become familiar with applicable local, state, and federal design standards, solid waste regulations, and permitting requirements.

Create, utilize, and modify plans, profiles, alignments, sample lines, corridors, and section views.

Prepare detailed and accurate plan and profile drawings for civil and environmental infrastructure projects.

Create, manage, and edit line types, text styles, label styles, point groups, and CAD standards libraries.
-
Create, manage, and edit design surfaces using feature lines, corridors, 3D polylines, survey point data, and related components.

Develop and edit pipe networks for stormwater, leachate, landfill gas, force mains, and utility systems.

Understand and effectively operate projects utilizing both CTB and STB plot style configurations.

Create, manage, and coordinate sheet set managers for complex multi-discipline projects.

Support QA/QC procedures by reviewing markups, implementing corrections, and resubmitting designs within required timelines.

Prepare basic engineering calculations, quantity takeoffs, and construction quantity estimates.

Assist in the preparation of technical drawings, exhibits, reports, specifications, construction schedules, permit application figures, and bid documents.

Perform CAD drafting and design support on a regular basis to advance conceptual designs through final construction documents.

Coordinate with engineers, scientists, surveyors, and field personnel to support project execution and construction activities.

Assist with implementation of regulatory standards and permitting requirements for environmental and solid waste facilities.
SALARY: $37.00-$41.00 (Hourly)
TRAVEL: up to 25%
JOB REQUIREMENTS:

High school diploma or GED required; associate or bachelor’s degree in drafting technology, engineering technology, or related field preferred.

Minimum of 3 years of related CAD drafting and design experience required.

Experience with civil/site development and environmental or solid waste facility projects preferred.

Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D required; Carlson experience preferred.

Familiarity with grading, drainage, utility, and earthwork design concepts.

Experience preparing construction plans and technical exhibits for permitting and regulatory submittals preferred.

Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines simultaneously.

Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.

Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record required.

Must be able to pass drug and alcohol screening.
