COMMUNICATIONS AND MARKETING COORDINATOR (Half-Time)
Position Summary:
The Communications and Marketing Coordinator plays a pivotal role in amplifying the Excel Academy mission and supporting student outcomes by collaborating with the Executive Director, Administrative Team, and the Enrichment Coordinator to produce engaging content for stakeholders, spanning areas such as school marketing, newsletters, and school and district messages. The Communication Coordinator emphasizes clarity and alignment with the school's strategic plan, employs various platforms to reach both internal and external audiences.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Specific duties include (other duties may be assigned):
- Contribute to the Communications Team by developing compelling content in support of the school's mission, including ideation, writing, formatting, editing and proofreading publications and newsletters; assist with website and social media content, newsletters, special event coordination, school marketing projects, etc.
- Develop, write, design, and manage production of communications materials, including ideation, writing, formatting, designing, editing and proofreading publications; newsletters; web and social media content; media and public relations materials; print collateral; and promotional materials, FAQs, etc.
- Generate new techniques to make communications more effective.
- Manage communications projects according to guidelines and are delivered on time.
- Build collaborative, cross-functional team relationships to establish communication strategies and ensure a consistent message for targeted internal and external audiences.
- Implement and evaluate systems for testing communications efforts, obtain and process insights to ensure continued improvement and effectiveness.
- Manage the review and approval process with key stakeholders before releasing communications materials.
- Serve as a member of the Communications Team and leading the school's marketing efforts.
- Primary responsibility for management of the school's mass communications system (SchoolMessenger, ParentSquare, or similar), including distribution lists and sending communications on both a scheduled and as-needed basis.
- Assist with maintaining communication calendars, organizing files, coordinating and supporting events, managing meetings, and providing basic project coordination to the team.
- Provide basic communications and marketing-related administrative support to the Executive Director, including the team's marketing budget management, contributing to the team's management of the general Communications email box, and working as a liaison with HR for systems processing of on-boarding of new employees
- Ensure purposeful, positive, and professional interactions and relationships with all stakeholders that embody Excel Academy's mission, vision and value and Jeffco's values of focus on students; excellence; equity; integrity and belonging.
- Supports the Executive Director and Administrative Team with crisis communications
- This position has no supervisory responsibilities, but acts as a team lead in branding, marketing, and project management, guiding work delegation to other members of the Communications Team.
- Will create the weekly Eagle Update
- Maintain the Facebook page
- Update the weekly Staff Huddle and Weekly Staff Email
- Back-up secretary to the front office
- Perform other duties as assigned
Experience:5 years' of experience in communications, with an emphasis in content development, graphic design, web development, journalism and/or public relations preferred
Education:Bachelor's Degree in graphic design, journalism, marketing, communications, public relations or related field strongly preferred. Additional years of experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
Certificates, Licenses, & Registrations: Driver's License required; First Aid & CPR certificate desired

- Exceptional graphic design, writing, proofreading and editing skills with a demonstrated ability to translate complex subjects into engaging stories for diverse audiences preferred.

- Knowledgeable and comfortable working with technology and software programs, including MS and Google Suites, Infinite Campus, and similar as required
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality with regard to employees, students and parents
- Professional writing, proofreading and editing skills with a demonstrated ability to understand and apply complex subjects into engaging stories for diverse audiences preferred.
- Demonstrated experience with web content management systems, Google Drive/G-Suite, project coordination, and social media management tools.
- Proficient use and troubleshooting of current information technologies, including the Internet, all Microsoft Office 365 software products (e.g. Excel, Word, etc.), electronic calendars, and standard office systems.
- Strong writing skills are required. Working knowledge and application of AP style of writing and editing.
- Ability to work within the school's branding and style guide and support others in doing the same.
- Knowledge of Associated Press style of writing and editing.
- Effective oral communications skills, strong attention to detail, and ability to work collaboratively with others on the team and cross-departments.
- Ability to work under pressure with multiple deadlines.
- Aptitude for variety and changing expectations and fast-paced environment.

Community Relations: Regular contact with community members, families, and school leaders to exchange information with regard to the students. Requires a high degree of confidentiality.
