Manual Lathe Operator (Manual Machinist)

Position Overview
This position involves the manual operation of machining equipment, with a primary focus on manual lathes in a manufacturing environment. The role is labor-intensive and performed in a hot, dirty, and noisy setting. This is a non-CNC position requiring strict adherence to safety standards and attention to detail.

Essential Job Functions

Set up and operate manual lathes and related equipment to machine parts to specification.
Load, align, and secure workpieces; adjust machine settings as needed.
Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and work instructions.
Measure, mark, and verify dimensions using precision tools (e.g., micrometers).
Inspect finished parts to ensure quality standards are met.
Perform grinding, sanding, and polishing to correct defects or prepare surfaces.
Maintain equipment and perform basic repairs using hand tools.
Record production and inspection data accurately.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
Handle and work with metal materials including nickel, cobalt, iron, and tungsten carbide.
Follow all company policies, safety procedures, and supervisor instructions.

Requirements

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods (8+ hours).
Strong knowledge of manual machining and lathe operations.
Proficiency with precision measuring tools, especially micrometers.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
Basic math and problem-solving skills.
Willingness to work in hot, humid, and industrial conditions.
Completion of required respiratory and hearing safety programs.

Preferred Qualifications

3+ years of manual machining experience.
2+ years of manual lathe experience.
TIG welding experience a plus.
Technical training in machining or related field.
Strong mechanical aptitude and teamwork skills.

Additional Information
This is a safety-sensitive position. Candidates must pass a drug screening upon hire. Employees may be exposed to various metal particulates; MSDS information is available upon request.

This role is critical to maintaining production quality and efficiency. Duties may be adjusted as needed to support operational requirements.

Pay: $20.00 - $27.00 per hour
