Full Job Description

Center Director
St. Petersburg and Tampa Locations

Delores Smith Academy is seeking experienced, dependable, and passionate Center Directors to lead our early childhood programs at our St. Petersburg and Tampa locations.

At Delores M. Smith Academy, we’re committed to creating nurturing, engaging learning environments where children are supported in their development and families feel welcomed and connected. Our programs are built around strong relationships, quality early learning experiences, and a team of educators who are supported in doing meaningful work with children and families.

We currently have two Center Director positions available:

St. Petersburg Location: Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
Tampa Location: Bilingual English/Spanish required

Key Responsibilities
The Center Director will:

Oversee the daily operations of the early childhood program
Maintain compliance with all applicable licensing requirements, policies, and procedures
Provide leadership, coaching, support, and accountability to teaching staff
Monitor classroom quality, staff performance, and implementation of program expectations
Maintain appropriate staffing levels, schedules, and child-to-staff ratios
Support staff recruitment, onboarding, training, and professional development
Build positive and professional relationships with children and families
Communicate effectively with families regarding program expectations, concerns, and children’s needs
Maintain accurate program, staff, and child records
Support enrollment, tours, family engagement, and retention efforts
Promote a safe, welcoming, organized, and developmentally appropriate learning environment
Work collaboratively with school leadership to support the goals and continued growth of Delores M. Smith Academy

Required Qualifications
Candidates must:

Meet Florida child care Director Credential requirements
Hold all required state-mandated early childhood education credentials and training
Have experience with the USDA Child Care Food Program, including program requirements, documentation, and compliance
Have experience using Teaching Strategies GOLD for curriculum, assessment, or program implementation
Have professional experience working in an early childhood education setting
Have previous child care center leadership, management, or director experience
Demonstrate knowledge of child development, developmentally appropriate practice, and early childhood program operations
Have experience supervising, coaching, and supporting staff
Have strong organizational, communication, and problem solving skills
Be able to maintain professional relationships with families, staff, and community partners
Be dependable, flexible, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Qualifications
Strong candidates may also have:

Significant experience directing or managing a licensed early childhood program
Experience with staff development, coaching, and performance management
Experience with licensing, compliance, enrollment, and early childhood program administration
Demonstrated success building strong relationships with staff, children, and families

Compensation
Starting at $22.00 per hour, with higher compensation available based on education, credentials, and relevant experience
