Overview

Join our dedicated team as a Peer Specialist and become a vital advocate for individuals navigating mental health and substance use challenges. In this empowering role, you will leverage your lived experience and professional skills to foster hope, resilience, and recovery among diverse populations. Your energetic approach will inspire clients to embrace their recovery journeys, promote wellness, and build community connections. This paid position offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact while advancing your career in behavioral health services.

Duties

Provide peer support and mentorship to individuals with mental health conditions and co-occurring disorders, sharing personal recovery experiences to motivate positive change.
Assist clients in developing coping strategies using motivational interviewing, harm reduction techniques, and crisis intervention skills.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate care plans that address behavioral health and substance use needs.
Engage with culturally diverse communities to ensure respectful, inclusive support tailored to individual backgrounds.
Maintain client confidentiality while documenting interactions accurately.
Support clients during crisis situations by managing de-escalation techniques and connecting them with appropriate emergency resources.
Advocate for clients’ needs through peer support advocacy, empowering them to access community resources and recovery programs.

Experience

Lived experience with mental health conditions or substance use disorders, demonstrating personal resilience and recovery insight.
Prior experience working with individuals experiencing behavioral health challenges, including crisis management and crisis intervention.
Familiarity with working in culturally diverse settings, respecting different backgrounds and perspectives.
Strong communication skills for client engagement, mentoring, and collaboration with healthcare teams.
Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and practicing ethical peer support advocacy.
