Utility Locate Coordinator (Hybrid Field & Remote Role)Job Summary
We are seeking a highly organized and experienced Utility Locate Coordinator to support our underground boring crews by managing locate tickets, coordinating 811 requests, and verifying field markings to ensure safe and efficient excavation.
While this is not a full‑time locating position, prior experience as a Utility Locate Technician is required. Your background in identifying and understanding underground utilities will help you effectively manage tickets, verify markings, assist crews in the field, and ensure compliance with damage‑prevention standards.
This hybrid role combines field verification work with remote/office coordination, offering a balance of independent field activity and structured administrative responsibilities.
Key Duties & Responsibilities Locate Ticket Management & Coordination
- Submit and manage 811 locate requests for underground boring crews.
- Track ticket updates, expiration dates, and refresh requirements to stay ahead of crew schedules.
- Review locate information for accuracy and communicate discrepancies promptly.
- Serve as the point of contact for utility locators, crews, and project managers regarding ticket status and conflicts.
Field Verification & Support
- Visit job sites to verify that locate markings are visible, accurate, and valid before crews begin digging.
- Use your locating experience to help crews identify utilities that appear mismarked, missing, or unclear.
- Assist with troubleshooting in the field when crews encounter unexpected utilities.
- Document job‑site conditions and any utility conflicts with photos, notes, and GPS data.
Damage Documentation & Compliance
- Respond to any utility damages to gather details, document conditions, and ensure accurate reporting.
- Maintain detailed digital records of tickets, field verifications, conflicts, and incidents.
- Ensure all work follows 811 state regulations and company damage‑prevention standards.
Communication & Coordination
- Work directly with project managers, boring crews, and utility representatives to align schedules and resolve locating issues.
- Provide updates on locate status, upcoming expirations, and any potential delays.
- Support daily or weekly reporting as needed.
Experience & Qualifications Required:
- Previous experience as a Utility Locate Technician (or equivalent experience in utility locating).
- Strong understanding of underground utility systems, locating methods, and 811 ticket processes.
- Ability to read and interpret locate maps, sketches, and basic construction drawings.
- Experience working around or supporting underground construction or boring crews.
Preferred:
- Experience managing 811 locate tickets or coordinating field teams.
- Familiarity with digital ticketing systems, GIS tools, or utility mapping applications.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to coordinate multiple teams.

- Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions during field visits.
- Excellent organization and time‑management skills.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize changing workloads.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
